We are delighted to announce Afi Lane as Blackbird Gallery's featured artist of the week.

Afi Ese, a Houston-based narrative portrait artist, is highly skilled in oil, soft pastel, and charcoal. Through the strategic use of fashion activism and symbolism, her work aims to reclaim and recontextualize Black history, highlighting denim, lace, gold teeth, and natural hairstyles as powerful symbols of resistance and remembrance. Frequently featured in her work are birds native to Africa and the Southern United States, serving as poignant reminders of ancestors lost to historical revision.

Blackbird Gallery is delighted to feature Judy Bowman as Artist of the Week.

Judy Bowman is a mixed-media collage artist who was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Her art practice centers on exalting America’s Black culture that move beyond institutional racism and disparaged perspectives of the Black experience. Considering herself a visual griot, she pays tribute to personal memories from of her coming-of-age in Detroit’s Eastside and Black Bottom neighborhoods.

Happy Monday! Blackbird Gallery present Dawn Stringer as artist of the week. Dawn L. Stringer is a self-taught Abstract Expressionist. Her work is influenced by Gerhard Richter and Norman Lewis, and is heavily inspired by music, pop culture and obscurity. Dawn describes her work as 'beautifully organized chaos.' She encourages viewers to get lost within her work and create their own interpretation based on what they see and, most importantly, what they feel.
