These works are by artists Lisa Murphy who has been a featured artist with the Wave Gallery for years now. We are so pleased to be featuring her pieces in our current show "After Impact"!

"My pieces Worry and Sadness reflect some of the emotions I felt during my visit to the 9/11 Museum about 5 years ago. It was a solemn and frightening reminder that the world has flaws, and we must exist in it.

Lisa is exploring a lens that is ever evolving to accept the new and varied experiences of her life as a Gay, Black, disabled woman in Boston, MA. She has found expressions in acrylic mono printing, collage, silhouettes, and mark making. Her ability to intuitively create engaging visual works continues to become more refined. Ms. Murphy is grateful for her very supportive artist family that cheers on new growth and exciting new mediums."

Today we are highlighting artist Emily Mayer!

"Reflections", Acrylic paint, magazine clippings and other mixed media, 16” x 20”, $75

"This piece was made in remembrance of September 11th. I combine painting, collage, and poetry to work through something that feels both far away and still very close. I paint in layers of color and texture, then add photographs, magazine clippings, origami, pressed flowers, shells, and stones — pieces of memory, news, and everyday objects gathered together. Butterflies, birds, and flowers show up throughout, alongside words I’ve written, because some things are easier to say in a poem than in an image. As a neurodivergent artist, I don’t separate the abstract from the real — for me they belong together, the same way grief and hope do. I hope this piece gives people a place to sit with what was lost, and also with what kept growing afterward."

"Barclay & Church 12.04.01", Oil on canvas, 72” x24”, $25,000

"I was born in New York City and lived in lower Manhattan from 1969 till 1971 on Chambers Street, a few blocks north of the World Trade Center. A few times friends and would go to the bar at the top, Windows on The World, quite an experience. After the tragedy I wanted to do a painting about it. I went down to the City on December 1, 2001, to see the site. While waiting on the line to get to the viewing platform I saw this scene and realized it was what I would paint."

This series was created by artist Judy Hochberg who was a large part of making this exhibit come together. Thank you Judy! We will be posting more of her work from the show so stay tuned!

"Sept. 11, 8:44 a.m., 9:06 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 10:29 a.m.". Etchings, 21” x 15”

"September, 2026 will be 25 years since the horrific 9/11 attack in New York. I was totally traumatized by what happened on that day. A friend of mine called my husband that morning and told him to turn on the television, and we watched as the twin towers were taken down, and thousands of people lost their lives.

This tragedy became an obsession for my art work and I spent the next several years creating prints and paintings in order to express my grief and mourning. At the time I had a painting studio in the Codman building, a former factory in Rockland, MA and one of the other residents there was an architect. He and I created and submitted a design for the 9/11 memorial in New York. It was not accepted, but it helped us to deal with the tragedy."

Today we are honoring Susan Blair as remembered by Lisa Cook:

"I remember exactly where I was standing. I was watching on the news, shell shocked. I immediately received a call from a client’s wife who asked me to feed her husband that afternoon, (he was in a nursing home with dementia) she was in shock and said, “Susie is in the tower”. Susie was her daughter. It was the saddest thing I ever heard. The last she was seen was helping a pregnant down the stairs from the 78th floor. There was eventually a service for her in Attleboro and months later I kept receiving the Oprah magazine through a subscription that Susie bought me. I cried every month.

RIP Susan Blair.... She was a good one! I can’t share on camera... I could NEVER get through that without becoming ridiculously emotional. But I had to share with someone, because Susie deserved it."

"I was drawn to the idea of taking a familiar landscape and making it feel suddenly strange. The bright colors and fractured forms reflect the confusion of seeing the world differently after something changes everything. Even in that uncertainty, there is still beauty and life."

Calling all artists! The Wave Gallery is seeking submissions for its winter exhibit, THE ART OF EMOTIONS. Deadline for submissions is Nov. 6th. Opens on December 3rd and runs through February 6, 2027. Details on flyer. Please share & post

We will be open an additional day the following week on Wednesday October 7th, 10am-4pm.
This is in addition to Tuesday, 10/6, 10am-4pm, Thursday, 10/8, 10am - 6pm and Saturday, 10/10, 11am-6pm.
