Reflections in Focus is a four-part mindfulness and gallery-observation series inviting participants to experience Ming Smith’s photography through intentional attention, movement, relational care, and embodied awareness.

Each session combines an accessible mindfulness practice with guided observation of selected works, reflective writing, and a simple invitation to carry into everyday life. Together, participants will explore what becomes visible when we pause, how we move through the world, what it means to see and be seen with care, and how our experiences continue to resonate within us.

Attendance at all four sessions is not required. Participants are welcome to attend individual sessions. Register on calendar portion of the museum website.

Members got a special behind-the-scenes look at the installation of our newest exhibition, Franne Davids and the World She Painted, with Chief Curator Rebecca McNamara.
Our Curatorial team has been hard at work getting the final exhibition in our suite of fall solo shows by women artists ready for you. The exhibition features the colorful paintings of Franne Davids, who lived with schizophrenia and spent four decades painting a world for herself in her Waterbury basement.
Come see it for yourself at our Fall Exhibition Celebration this Sunday, October 11, 1–5 PM. Remarks begin at 1:30 PM, and admission is just $5 for the day.
And if you’re not a member yet, membership starts at just $15! Members receive free admission year-round, plus special perks like behind-the-scenes experiences, discounts, and more.

Kids have days off from school coming up, which means it’s time for an adventure at the MATT!

Our Schools OUT! programs give kids a chance to spend their day off exploring, creating, and having fun through Adventures in Art & History.

👀 What’s lurking in the Connecticut woods?
Join us October 14 for Lunch & Learn: Noises in the Night: Connecticut Cryptids with author Patrick Scalisi and artist Valerie Ruby-Omen, creators of Connecticut Cryptids.
Learn about the stories, folklore, and mysterious creatures that have captured Connecticut’s imagination. Pat and Val will introduce the concepts of cryptozoology and cryptids, share their research, and bring these strange local tales to life through a live storytelling session.
Audience Q+A and a book signing will follow. Books and prints will be available for purchase.
Bring your own lunch or order ahead from Sweet Bella @ The MATT.
