🕰️ 2026 Waterbury Clock Legacy Award Honorees

The Mattatuck Museum is proud to present the 2026 Waterbury Clock Legacy Award to Brian and Natalia Batista in recognition of their extraordinary philanthropy and unwavering commitment to the Greater Waterbury community.

Brian and Natalia Batista are proud members of the Batista family, whose deep roots in the Greater Waterbury community span nearly five decades. What began with a single Dunkin’ franchise in 1978 has grown into a thriving family operation of 17 locations throughout the Greater Waterbury area. Their commitment to excellence has earned recognition at the highest levels, with the Batista family being named Dunkin’ Brands’ National Operator of the Year in 2015. Beyond their business success, the Batistas are dedicated community partners, consistently investing their time, energy, and resources into the people and organizations that make Waterbury home.

On Wednesday, June 17, the Mattatuck Museum will celebrate their enduring commitment to the vitality and spirit of the Greater Waterbury community.

The Mattatuck Museum was proud to host a special screening of Waterbury 1901 this evening in the Leavenworth Sperry Jr. Performing Arts Center, where a captivated audience experienced an extraordinary journey into the city’s past.

Created by Wilby High School juniors Aniah Ogman and Aneisa Scott under the guidance of teacher Mike Drew, the 20-minute film brings historic photographs from the Museum’s archives to life through artificial intelligence technology, transforming still images into vivid scenes of Waterbury at the turn of the twentieth century.

Developed in collaboration with Museum Archivist and Librarian Caleb Weissman and narrated by longtime WATR Radio personality Tom Chute, the project beautifully blends history, technology, and storytelling while celebrating the people and places that shaped the Brass City.

Following the screening, attendees had the opportunity to meet the student filmmakers and learn more about the creative process behind this innovative project. The Mattatuck Museum is honored to support the next generation of storytellers while preserving and sharing Waterbury’s rich history.

The Mattatuck Museum is proud to honor The Honorable Neil M. O'Leary with the 2026 Brass Button Award in recognition of his decades of leadership and dedication to the Greater Waterbury community.

From his service as a police officer and chief, to founding the Waterbury Police Activities League (PAL), serving on the Board of Education, creating Waterbury Promise, and leading the city as Waterbury's 46th Mayor, Neil O'Leary has left an enduring legacy of public service and community investment.

Due to weather concerns, tonight’s A Grateful Gathering featuring Mystic Dead will now take place inside the Mattatuck Museum in the Performing Arts Space on the third floor.

Not every portrait in About Face: 250 Years of American Portraits carries an individual story: an artist may choose not to record their sitter’s name, or their identity might be lost with time. These artworks become collective portraits of human experience and invitations to speculate on the sitters’ stories anew.
