Watertown History Museum Official page for the Watertown History Museum, formerly the Watertown Historical Society We are an independent nonprofit organization.

Watertown History Museum collects, preserves and shares the history of Watertown and Oakville. Our ever-growing collection of artifacts, photographs and documents is available for free public viewing at 401 Main Street. We try to respond to all inquiries - from around the corner and around the country. Besides manuscripts, books, and artifacts we have digital files of the Town Times newspaper from

1947 to 2000 as well as Watertown High School yearbooks, which are available online through our website. We also have a selection of Connecticut state and local histories, and family genealogies.

Please note that the Watertown History Museum is not affiliated with the Watertown Historic District.

The advertisement from a New York paper in the 1860s enticed people from the city to vacation here. It was really a showplace and flourished after the railroad was built. At the close of the Watertown Fair each September, a huge ball was held at the Warren House.
Passenger cars were a common site at the railroad yards for many years. This 1898 photograph shows two cars that were used by many residents who worked in Waterbury and other areas of Connecticut.
