The artist is in!

Seamless exhibiting artist Jordan Bruner will be set up in the atrium all weekend. Working across painting and animation, Bruner's work centers on women, animals, and imagined places, blending joy, tension, and humor through bold color and carefully constructed compositions.

Drop in today, Saturday, or Sunday to see what she's working on and join the art activity nearby—paint an animation frame that Bruner will scan and transform into an animation!

What happens when an artist, a landscape designer, an art therapist, and a botanical garden all work toward the same goal?

At the Virginia MOCA Art + Design Convening on June 13, Brendan Baylor, Assistant Professor of Art at Old Dominion University and Kelly Morse of 70 | 30 Design Studio share the story of Soundings, a socially engaged art project housed in a converted shipping container with a vegetated roof at Norfolk Botanical Garden, and what the process of making it revealed about the messiness and magic of true interdisciplinary collaboration.

What goes on behind gallery walls? On June 13, get a closer look at how exhibitions come together. Grab your tickets now!

Dave Culpepper, Virginia MOCA Gallery & Exhibitions Manager, will pull back the curtain on what it takes to present art in a contemporary museum—from working with curators and artists to building and designing moveable gallery walls, hanging artworks, and getting the lighting just right. It’s the work most visitors never see, but experience every time they step into a gallery.

After the session, you’ll walk away with a clearer sense of everything that happens before an exhibition opens, and the collaboration behind it all.
