Vestal Museum Dedicated to the preservation and presentation of local history through historical artifacts and events.

The Vestal Museum is a department of the Town of Vestal and is an organization dedicated to the preservation and presentation of local art and history. The Vestal Museum serves as the repository of local artifacts and archives. Public education is accomplished through collection care, exhibits and public and school programs. Museum programs are developed in cooperation with Vestal Historical Society members and community volunteers.

Due to the overwhelming interest in this talk, we have added a new date and larger location. We will still hold the Thursday, October 22nd talk at the Vestal Museum at 6pm (limited seating first come first serve /35 total). Sunday, November 15th (Same talk) at the Vestal Library large group at 1pm.

This mini display of farm equipment has a few interesting objects, the seamless Amoskeag bag was manufactured in New Hampshire by the same company that supplied denim to Levi Jeans! It was woven on a tubular loom so there were no side seams in the grain bags make them easier to load and unload.

An object from our collection- Can you name it and its function?
ANSWER: A Koehler safety mining lantern circa 1910-30’s. The flame would flare up or form a “ ble cap” if suffocating methane gas was present. If the flame went out low oxygen was present and evacuating the mine was critical. The perforated top kept the lamp from overheating and igniting the dangerous air of the mines.
