Thanks to the DePersis/Alimonti family for this 1922 letter from George F. Johnson to the widow of an E-J employee. GFJ guaranteed the man’s salary to be paid to his widow for the rest of 1922 and all of 1923….what a great man GFJ was!

Our Civil War Room holds many priceless treasures: the six-pounder mountain howitzer and Lucius C. Cady’s coat. The cannon was found in a barn in the Union District in the early 1930’s. It was likely purchased originally by local citizens wishing to protect their homes from an invasion by the Confederate General Robert E. Lee.

Lucius Cady at age 18 joined the C.C. New York Engineers in 1865. He was one of the last surviving veterans of the Civil War, passing away in 1937, age of 90. This is coat that has survived (although, a little tattered!).
