Hart Square's next Cultural Foodways experience will take place on Thursday evening, June 25th. Register today to join us at Hickory Soup Kitchen as Chef Aakriti Agrawal shares her personal Indian heritage journey through cooking.

Chef Aakriti will lead a hands-on kitchen demonstration inspired by the street food of North India, and the night concludes with a family-style dinner inspired by the vegetarian dishes that Aakriti learned to craft from her grandmother.

Advanced registration is required.

Hart Square Foundation is thrilled to welcome Nathan and Stephen Olusemire as summer interns! As students at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Nathan and Stephen are classically trained musicians who dream of founding a music education nonprofit in their home country of Nigeria. After two weeks of supporting our Junior Appalachian Musicians afterschool program, their focus is now on creating a resource library and archive where you’ll be able to find books on everything from traditional craft, to homesteading, to historic cookbooks.

Many thanks to the UNC School of the Arts Fund for Catawba County Endowment for making these internships possible!

We’ve just wrapped up our second semester of the Junior Appalachian Musicians after school program, which teaches banjo and guitar in the traditional Appalachian custom. The biggest barriers to music education are transportation and cost. Hart Square Foundation has become a bus stop for our closest elementary and middle school, and we are working diligently to acquire instruments for students who cannot afford their own instruments, as well as charitable donations to provide tuition scholarships for those in need.

A few of our students wanted to perform a sample of what they’ve learned this semester!
