Meet one of the most special microphones in our collection: The Neumann M49.

This mic in particular has been apart of some of music history's most iconic albums and singles. For many years, it lived at Cherokee Recording Studios in Hollywood. David Bowie, the Cars, Michael Jackson, Journey, Mötley Crüe, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, ELO, Neil Diamond, Rod Stewart, Aretha Franklin, Steely Dan, Toto, and Ricky Nelson. Purchased from Gunnar Nelson (Ricky's twin son), countless Oklahoma artists are being inducted into its history.

Today, we're thinking of Dolly Parton and her incredible songwriting talent. The clip featured is from Dolly's last appearance on The Porter Wagoner Show in 1974, 7 years after she first joined Wagoner on the show.

"I Will Always Love You" was released in 1974, a year after it was recorded. Parton wrote the song as a farewell to country artist Porter Wagoner—her mentor and business partner—when she decided to pursue a solo career.

Parton stated she wrote the track around the same time she wrote "Jolene," with both demos being recorded on the same cassette tape.
