We were saddened to learn of Mr. Ceciel Locklar’s passing this past Saturday. Today, we remember and honor him, his legacy, and a life well lived. Mr. Ceciel and his wife Miss Faye owned the Locklar Rolling store that was donated to the museum in 2022. They traveled many a mile while operating it in Bullock and Macon counties from 1955 until 2002. We send our thoughts, prayers, and love to Miss Faye, their children Frankie, Ricky, Melita, the grandchildren, great grandchildren, and the rest of the family.

The museum held a fundraiser to seek donations to build a shed, pour and stamp concrete, and build a retaining wall to protect the rolling store from the elements. Thanks again to our donors as the shed would not have been possible without your generosity.

We first met Mr. Ceciel and Miss Faye when they stopped by the museum while in Troy for an appointment. Miss Faye shared with me that Mr. Ceciel was worried that the rolling store had been parked in the woods and forgotten about. Needless to say, he was pleasantly surprised when he saw it parked under the newly built shed.

After some interior cleaning and painting, Mr. Ceciel and Miss Faye came by a few times to help us get the merchandise set like they had it when they ran the truck. Mr. Ceciel wanted to make sure we had chickens in the cage, it took a while to find some that would fit, but we did…thank you Amazon. It was an absolute joy getting to know and share that time with them. Stories about their adventures on those Bullock and Macon County roads and the relationships they had with their customers were shared with us.

The Locklar Rolling Store exhibit’s grand opening was held on July 4, 2024 with Mr. Ceciel and Miss Faye front and center sharing about their rolling store days and their life’s work. It was a wonderful day at the museum.

The Locklar Rolling Store exhibit has fast become a popular one at the museum as most guests have never heard of a rolling store. They are fascinated with it. We are honored to pass on the stories about the Locklar Rolling Store that Mr. Ceciel and Miss Faye shared with us. Rest in peace Mr. Ceciel. We will miss your visits and stories.
