Learn from a master.

On Saturday, August 22, VEFA Gallery welcomes Otto Stürcke for an intimate, one-day workshop dedicated to the power of black and white pastel.

Otto is a Master Pastelist and International Association of Pastel Societies Master Circle artist whose work has been recognized with the prestigious Dianne B. Bernhard Gold Medal and is represented in collections including the Smithsonian and the Butler Institute of American Art.

And for one day, you have the opportunity to learn directly from him.

Black & White Pastel: Techniques to Elevate Your Monochromatic Painting

Using only black and white charcoal and pastel, Otto will teach participants how to create a rich spectrum of grays, strengthen form, control mood and build more expressive monochromatic work. The day includes demonstrations, hands-on exercises and, most importantly, plenty of one-on-one instruction from Otto himself.

Whether you’re looking to sharpen your understanding of value or elevate an already developed practice, this is an opportunity to study the decisions, techniques and discipline behind the work of an accomplished master.

And you’ll be learning surrounded by Pastels USA: 99 Voices, PSWC’s 40th Anniversary Exhibition, currently filling the walls of VEFA Gallery.

Tomorrow, August 1, be among the first to experience 99 Voices, a landmark exhibition presented in partnership with the Pastel Society of the West Coast celebrating the society’s 40th Anniversary.

For decades, pastel has captivated artists with its unmatched ability to capture light, atmosphere, and raw emotion. In this extraordinary juried exhibition, 99 artists each bring a unique perspective, proving just how diverse, expressive, and powerful this remarkable medium can be.

Whether you’re an avid collector, an artist, or simply looking to experience something inspiring, this is your opportunity to discover one of the finest collections of contemporary pastel work assembled on the West Coast. Many of these works will be available for acquisition, and tomorrow is your first chance to see and collect them.
