Thermopolis was home to some of the most interesting characters of the wild west and we have proof. Where else can you mosey up to the legendary Hole-in-the-Wall Bar, where famous men such as Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid enjoyed refreshment. Peer into the businesses of the past as you stroll the boardwalk of Old Town Thermopolis recreated on our second floor. We have several displays in honor of military veterans from the early wars to the present. The geology section will rock your socks and don’t forget to check out the annex where a hundred-year-old schoolhouse opens its doors for class every spring! Who Remembers?
McGrath building and Bakery Building. These historic buildings were destroyed by fire in March 1985. The businesses that were in the buildings at the time of the fire were "Fashion Crossroads" & "The Jewel Box." The outside wall of the McGrath buildings was standing after the fire but, for safety's sake, it was torn down.

On display at the museum! Mounted head of a bull elk taken by Thermopolis Pioneer H.S. Cover in 1921. Harvested in the Owl Creek Mountains of Wyoming, this bull's antlers were measured by Boone and Crocket and documented having the greatest spread in the United States, at 72 5/8" at the widest point, making this bull a world record of that time, before the use of modern scoring measurements.
