Get your brushes and paint ready! This week we are celebrating the Sylvania Plein Air Festival hosted by Red Bird Sylvania!

The artifact featured for the month of August is a beautiful watercolor painting of the Lathrop House by W. Chapman.

When do you think it was painted? Before or after the Lathrop House was moved? Leave a heart if you think it was painted before or leave a like if you think it was painted after!

We will be closing the Cooke-Kuhlman House today as our staff and volunteers are helping with the annual Celebration of Freedom at the Lathrop House. We welcome you to come and visit us in Harroun Park from 10am-2pm.

On Saturday August 1, 2026 we celebrate 12 years of the historic Lathrop House Museum with Celebration of Freedom.

Live music will kick off the event at 10am paying tribute to the history of the underground railroad. Melodies, hymns, and music of the time will fill the air as you immerse yourself in American History and learn Sylvania's impact along the road to freedom.

No tickets or cost. Visit us August 1, 2026 from 10am - 2pm for special open hours at the Lathrop House!

Displayed in the Cooke-Kuhlman House, the bookstore features hidden treasures and tales written by local authors. Stop by during your visit during the Cooke-Kuhlman House open hours Saturdays 11-2 and Sundays 1-4.
