Less than 100 seats remain for one of Knight Foundry’s most anticipated nights of the year! ❤️ The 9th Annual Feast at the Foundry returns Saturday, September 19, for an unforgettable evening inside one of California’s most historic industrial landmarks.

Picture long tables beneath the lights of the Foundry, a delicious tri-tip & chicken dinner, live music, a silent auction, raffle prizes and an evening spent gathering with friends and community while supporting the preservation of Knight Foundry. 🤎⚙️

Twenty-one foundrymen… and one very good dog. 🐾🤎 In honor of National Dog Day, we’re giving a little extra attention to one of our favorite faces in the Knight Foundry archives.

Look closely at this historic photograph and you’ll spot a four-legged companion sitting right alongside the Foundry crew. The image was taken sometime after the 1936 fire and while we may not know this pup’s name or story, we love knowing that dogs were finding their way into the everyday moments of Knight Foundry history, too.

More than 90 years later, this little member of the crew still deserves their moment in the spotlight. 🐕⚙️

We had another great month during our 4th Saturday Blacksmithing class. Congratulations to Marcus on finishing his pineapple twist & Diggs for learning to punch holes & hot cut metal!

We have two monthly classes. One on the 2nd Monday of the month & one on the 4th Saturday of the month. Both cost $55 per student & both you must be a member of the CBA (California Blacksmithing Association) & 15 years or older. There’s more history hiding just beyond Main Street Sutter Creek than you might realize. ⚒️ Established in 1873 by Samuel Knight, Knight Foundry is America’s last water-powered foundry and machine shop and much of its historic machinery remains in place today. What once helped support the Mother Lode’s mining industry now offers visitors a rare chance to step inside California’s industrial past.

Walk through the Foundry and discover the water-powered machinery, historic forges, sand casting, blacksmithing and craftsmanship that helped build far more than just Sutter Creek.
And yes… it might be a little dusty. That’s part of the charm. 😉

Knight Foundry is open to the public on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month, with the 4th Saturday offering a self-guided tour you can explore at your own pace.

There are some traditions that are about more than gathering around a table. Feast at the Foundry is one of them. On Saturday, September 19, we’ll once again come together inside one of California’s most remarkable pieces of living history for an evening of good food, music, friendship and support for a place that means so much to our community.

And with the 9th Annual Feast at the Foundry now just over a month away, we hope you’ll save a seat at the table.

Thank you, Ron Edgar! ❤️ After 24 years of dedicated service, Ron Edgar is retiring from Knight Foundry.

Ron first became involved during the major inventory project in 2002 and went on to help repair and sell historic equipment at two different locations before the New Machine Shop was developed and the program found a permanent home.

For 12 years, Ron represented Knight Foundry while teaching machine shop at the local high school. He also organized beloved fundraisers, including Trash to Treasures and the Foundry Garage Sale and served as the fearless leader of our Wednesday Workers. Under his guidance, the group created items for the Feast at the Foundry auction, repaired and resold machinery, maintained and restored the property, and took on countless other projects.

Ron has also generously served as a docent during tour days, sharing his knowledge and passion with visitors. Most importantly, he has been a trusted friend to everyone at the Foundry.

Ron’s quiet leadership, dedication and friendship have meant more to us than words can express. We are deeply grateful for everything he has done and he will be greatly missed.

Please join us in thanking Ron and wishing him a wonderful retirement!
