Saturday, October 17 from 1 pm to 4 pm at America's Stonehenge105 Haverhill Road Salem, NH
SHS Life Member & Presenter Peter Wiggin will offer a whole new perspective on a very old, very controversial document "The Wheelwright Deed of 1629". Years of independent research and mapping have resulted in a whole new perspective on what this document might actually describe. Its role in history, what it actually pertained to and meant will be examined which offers an alternative narrative to the accepted norm and may go far in explaining why this document has been so little understood for so long. Topics discussed will be the founding of, and early records of the Towns of Newbury, Ipswich and Haverhill. There will be a closer look at the Merrimack River during the time period (1629-1643) couching all these areas of particular interest within the geographic bounds of Ol' Norfolk County (1643-1679).

Join our Friends of the Wiggin Memorial Library at the second annual Soup Event fundraiser. Enjoy a hearty homemade soup lunch. Spend lunchtime with the Friends as you enjoy a variety of soups, a myriad of baked goods and great conversation. The opportunity to take soups home will start at 1 pm. A memorial service lead by Chief Denton, was held at The Stratham Fire Station, this morning, Sept. 11. The event honored all those who lost their lives on this tragic day, 25 years ago, including Stratham’s own John Sapienza. John later passed from an illness related to his volunteer work at Ground Zero.
A solemn reminder to all: Remember, NEVER FORGET.

Earlier this year the Acquisitions Committee for the Stratham Historical Society welcomed Lane Tapley, a descendant of Stratham’s Lane Family.
Lane and her sister, Taylor Daly generously donated items that were held by their family for many generations. Some of the family heirlooms included a 1795 leather fire bucket, a 1781 Jabez Lane chest, a bed warmer, a child’s school slate and an 1833 North American history book.
The Stratham Historical Society is extremely honored to have been chosen as guardians and exhibitors of these historic items.

The Town of Stratham has long been known to educate its high school age students through SAU16 and Exeter High School. But Exeter High School has not always served young women alongside young men. In fact, Exeter High School, previously known as Tuck High School, only became co-educational in 1956. It was known as Tuck High School because funding was provided by banker, philanthropist and diplomat Edward Tuck. Edward Tuck, son of Amos Tuck, grew up in Exeter and assumed diplomatic responsibilities in Paris in 1889. He is the same Edward Tuck who purchased land in and around Stratham Hill and sold what would become Stratham Hill Park to the Town of Stratham for $1 in 1906.
