We’re making great progress processing the papers of Emeritus State Archaeologist Nick Bellantoni and the Office of State Archaeology, but you never know what you’re going to find when you open a box of archival material.

Can you spot the item that doesn’t seem to fit in with this old correspondence and reports?

Very fitting to be doing archival archaeology in the papers of the State Archaeologist! Curious to learn about the provenance of this plate - Maryland is know as “America in Miniature” and this souvenir plate was probably made in Japan in the 1970s for export to the US. Maybe for the bicentennial? Found with papers dated 1984.

TOMORROW!

The CSMNH will be at the Stafford Library tomorrow afternoon exploring different ways to use plants in crafts.

Drop in anytime between 5-7pm to play with plants and fiber!

No experience required and all ages/levels welcome - we'll have crafts appropriate for everyone!

We'll make bookmarks and junk journals using recycled botany textbooks, flowers from the Library's garden, and fibers processed from the UConn Botanical Conservatory.

Learn to preserve flowers and leaves, press them onto boards or into booklets, and how to twist fibers into cordage for tassels.

We’re dusting, vacuuming, and shining up all the birds for our upcoming Big Bird Day event (Saturday 18 July from 1-5pm in the Gant Light Court, UConn)! The kiwi even had a little forehead wire snip and combover to help her look her very best for the big day~

Our exhibit at the William Benton Museum of Art is being installed over the next couple weeks and will open on May 26.
