Blooms and Bows is a new public program at The Benton that explores the art of flower arranging. Curator of Education Matthew Marshall recently spoke with The Daily Campus about the second program in the series: “More than anything, this class will give people permission to explore flower arranging from an artistic perspective and give them the freedom to make mistakes and try things, and find out what they like."

“Flowers are kind of like a smile because they’re so fleeting and have such a short life that when they’re with us, you really appreciate them,” he said. “I can’t emphasize enough taking time throughout our day to... just pause and look around you and find the beauty and creativity of the world.”

The Benton’s 1890 pastel by Mary Cassatt is now on view at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris 🇫🇷 in the landmark exhibition, Mary Cassatt: Being Independent. It is the first major exhibition by a national museum in France focusing on Cassatt, a member of the impressionist group. Born in Pennsylvania, she spent most of her adult life living and working in France. The show marks the centenary of the artist’s death.

We are thrilled to have the Benton’s pastel join nearly 80 works by Cassatt in this long-awaited show. Benton Director Nancy Stula shared these photos from the opening.
