Artist Statement
Incorporating my love of comic books and science fiction, I create ceramic sculptures that are humorous, thought-provoking, and beautiful. While exploring society’s reaction to gay sexuality and culture, I’ve cultivated a somewhat subtle presentation of erotic content. I want the viewer to be drawn in to look, and then either laugh or be horrified.

My best friend, a ceramist who died from AIDS years ago, always wanted me to study with him. I was afraid of getting my hands dirty, but now I know that he’s somewhere out there laughing with me… and at me.

Artist Statement
My work begins with the human figure. I am drawn to the figure for its ability to hold many states at once—emotion, movement, tension, stillness, and ambiguity—without being limited to a single narrative. My goal is to capture a gesture that makes the figure feel alive. Because sculpture occupies the same physical space as the viewer, a convincing gesture can create an uncanny effect: something that appears alive yet remains completely still—a moment made permanent.

“It wasn’t until my retirement that I rediscovered my passion for creating with my hands. Joining the Walnut Creek Ceramic Studio opened the door to a new artistic journey. Beyond learning new techniques, I found something even more meaningful: a community of generous artists, many with decades of experience, who freely shared their knowledge and encouragement. The pottery studio has become much more than a place to make art. It has become a place of belonging, inspiration, and gratitude.”

“My work explores the oscillation between reality and otherworldly places, guided by a need to transform my surroundings into enchanting spaces. Parts and pieces of pastel dreams emerge as spectral echoes of semi-corporeal creatures inhabiting an in-between place—a dreamlike mezzanine where these elements intersect with the planes of reality, shaping an alternate realm called SP4RKL3_FiLTH_CL0UD_NiN3. Through making and storytelling, I actualize each creature with purpose while dreaming of how they contribute to the ecosystem of our etheric world.“

Artist Statement
25 August 2025, Nassar Hospital, Gaza. As rescue workers and journalists scramble up a stairwell in the wake of a deadly bomb strike, a secondary explosion is captured on a live-feed. Israel would temporarily attempt to justify this action by claiming a camera operated by Hussam al-Masri was Hamas. In reality, the camera belonged to the international news agency, Reuters, and al-Masri became one of more than 200 journalists murdered.

Artist Statement
“My work is primarily narrative, and it explores the “human condition” using anthropomorphic figures. Throughout history artists have often been the critics of society and I see that as a sacred calling in my work. As a child of a Holocaust survivor and an amputee, I am compelled to address social and political commentary in my work. It is my way to contribute to changing the world for the better and to fight against discrimination.

I combine humor with an undercurrent of conflict to view the foibles of humanity. Both humor and gravity can be addressed by the same technique of presenting the issue in a way that has the viewer stop and be thoughtful in more depth.”

Artist Statement
“My work inhabits the space between the tangible materiality of clay and the abstraction of the vessel as an idea. Forms emerge through a process of adding, stretching, and pinching clay, sometimes on the potter’s wheel, often by hand, allowing each piece to evolve organically rather than conform to a predetermined design. Every gesture invites a response from the material, embedding intention in each touch while guiding the next movement. The vessel, then, is not a fixed destination but the outcome of an open-ended inquiry, a record of reciprocal exchange between maker and material.”
