Ogata Kenzan ,iroe kenjin-zu tin-neck tea jar.
Ogata Kenzan, a renowneo Edo-period Japanese potter and painter. A tea jar (chatsubo) specifically used in Japanese tea ceremonies for storing tea leaves. Decorated with overglaze enamels. Won today at a Kyoto auction. Packed today and ready to be shipped back to our Stockbridge warehouse. Please visit us for our " Last Hurrah " . We will be opening late May and closing early September.

Bronze early 20th c. Onidoro,( Demon lantern ). This demon
was used to protect the house or temple from evil. In Japanese they believe protectinn figures must be fierce to deal with the evil on the other side. Makes sense to me. Collected early this morning in a Shiga auction.

A spectacular 19th c. indigo boro futon cover from a Kura,( Japanese storage building ) in Shiga, Japan. Measures about seven foot by four foot. When old indigo clothes and other worn textiles became obsolete the Japanese would sew the pcs together and stuff them with matted cotton to make thier winter blankets,( Futon ). This particular futon cover is magic! On its way to Stockbridge soon along with hundreds of other one of a kind Japanese antiques that will tickle your fancy. It will be our last year that we will be open to the public.
