“Not many cities outside of New York, Washington DC or Shanksville, PA were as affected by the events of 9/11, 25 years ago, as was Stamford, CT.
Just 20 miles across Long Island Sound, Stamford’s citizens mourned the trials and loss of loved ones and sat at the waterfront watching the plume from the towers as they burned for days.
As we commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the Stamford History Center is embarking on an effort to preserve the memories and testimonials of Stamford citizens that were alive on that day. Similar to Steven Spielberg’s “Shoah” project recording the accounts of Holocaust survivors for history, these first-hand testimonies will be preserved and assembled into a complete chronicle - as we lived it- of the events of September 11, 2001 .
Citizens are encouraged to provide 250 to 500 word eyewitness accounts and submit them to [email protected]. Alternatively, written accounts, along with photos, articles,and artifacts of that day can be delivered to the Stamford History offices at 1508 High Ridge Road, any Thursday, Friday or Saturday from 10:00AM- 4:00PM.
Stories submitted acknowledge the permission granted SHC to use, share in periodic accounts in the years to come as well as be included for posterity in Stamford History Center archives and exhibits.
Citizens submitting their accounts should provide a phone number or email address for our records and follow-up. Any submission used will be credited in any respective article or account to the individual or family providing it.
When submitting, you can use your full name (ex.John Smith ), or name and last name initial cap (John S.) as you wish.
