A letter from our Executive Director Michael Macari:
It is my great privilege to come to you for the first time as the Executive Director of the Stamford History Center.
As residents of Stamford, we are all invested in preserving our 400-year history and commemorating it together. It represents the uniqueness of this community and our shared identity. It is celebrated by our proud and long-time citizens, shared withnewcomers and taught to our school children as part of our work
As we seek to expand our exhibits and our presence in the community, we need your help.
This year, we celebrate the 1951 Little League World Championship in a memorable mini exhibit. We are displaying artifacts and our rich colonial heritage in an exhibit running at the center. Many thousands of people come to our Center each year and to tour living history in the 1699 Hoyt Barnum House we steward.
We are once again educating nearly 3,000 students in a history curriculum especially developed with the Stamford Public Schools. And, we have begun to assemble the testimonies of our people in remembering their experiences as we lived 9/11 together.
In the coming year, we will present a multi-part series about Stamford’s industry throughout the years, companies that have made a significant contribution to our world, formed and based right here. We will celebrate our rich history of “Wining and Dining”, extend our collections to the Ferguson library, pursue “Art and Artists” in collaboration with our neighbors at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center, and much,much more..
