More metal artifacts from 40 years ago incorporated into new art. It looks pretty cool during the day and at night, yes? The large copper disc was shaped and etched with acid to achieve the pitting and holes. Visit the tiny gallery to see these and other pieces by Seth! Leary in the current exhibition, “Eighty Six”.

Two more pieces and artist descriptions from the “Eighty Six” show: “Footwear I” | 1986/2026 | Mixed media on canvas ~ The copper was some experiment in metals class. The stitched bit is from a Nike swoosh from a pair of shoes I wore circa 1986. Background and text are from a 1986 National Geographic. Next is “Footwear II | 2026 | Photograph & acrylic on canvas ~ Background photograph was taken circa 1988 at my copy shop at 215 South Sixth Street in Springfield, Illinois. (The address was originally 217 but either I or the previous tenant inadvertently changed it to 215.) The excavated tile probably dates to when the shop was a Luer’s Shoes store many years prior.

This exhibition by Seth! Leary is up through July 3.

The skylights are covered but you can still lift the fabric to see in the side windows. 👀 The gallery is MOSTLY watertight but rain sometimes sneaks in. 🙄 Remember to tell your friends about the gallery and have them follow on all the social media. 🤗

“The small metal pieces have been following me around since 1986 (plus or minus a semester on either side) when I was taking metals and jewelry classes at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I saved these tidbits to ‘use someday’ and this month was that someday. The first two pieces (By Post I and By Post II) include postmarks and stamps from letters I received from my friend Tim Harte and cousin Rita. The📮 photo was taken in 1986 in Urbana, Illinois.” ~ Seth! Leary, artist
