An annual juried art exhibition at Beals Preserve in Southborough, MA

We are thrilled to announce that 16 artists (and 230 elementary school children) have been selected by Lisa Barthelson for the 10th Anniversary Art on the Trails Exhibition, which opens on June 13th.

Artists participating are Sarah Alexander Sarah Alexander, Wandering Mind Studio, (Sutton, MA), Paul Angiolillo(Weston, MA), Pam Bonaguide (Wayland, MA), Chelsea Bradway (Southborough, MA), Tom Dailey (Portland, ME), Jody Graff (Philadelphia, PA), Paulina Fuenzalida-Guzman (New Bedford, MA), Denise Johnson and the students of Margaret Neary Elementary School (Southborough, MA), Pam Kainz (Wayland, MA), Gunta Kaza (Wayland, MA), Bob Kephart (Southborough, MA), Mike Libby (Portland, ME), Bing Lin (East Weymouth, MA), Rachel Loischild (Roslindale, MA), Shannon McGuire (Auburn, MA), and Kristin Street (Foster, RI).

Are you a local business that wants to support community cultural endeavors? Art on the Trails is seeking a few more local businesses to help us to us meet our financial needs for our 10th Anniversary exhibition. As of now, we are running a deficit with out grants that we normally receive. There are two levels of support that are open for sponsorship. Here are the details. If you are interested and want to get the full benefit of this sponsorship, we ask you to act quickly, as our marketing emails will start going out soon.

Below are the details of sponsorship.

We will only accept one sponsor per business category: one realtor, one florist, etc. This is on a first-come, first-served basis. The sponsorship funds will be received and administered by the Southborough Open Land Foundation and are tax-deductible.

About the program: Art on the Trails takes place from June to September at Elaine and Philip Beals Preserve in Southborough. You can learn more about it by visiting our website at artonthetrails.com. This year, the theme for the program is Time in the Landscape, as we celebrate our 10th year of this show.

We offer two levels of sponsorship:

$250 Sponsorship
Logo on Trail Map (over 500 maps are picked up in the Preserve during the summer)
Logo in Chapbook (110 books printed and given to or purchased by artists, poets, and residents)
Logo and link on the website (artonthetrails.com), February through October
Mention at our closing event in September, as well as an opportunity to display promotional material at the event.

$500 Sponsorship
All of the above plus
Logo with link on emails (5 emails to 700 residents)
Promotion as sponsors on Facebook and Instagram pages and posts (Two posts from May to September, design can be provided if needed)

Art on the Trails, in collaboration with Southborough Open Land Foundation, announces its 2026 exhibition, marking the organization’s 10th anniversary with a compelling new theme: Time in the Landscape. The annual outdoor exhibition will open its Call for Art on February 15, 2026, inviting artists to submit work that explores the evolving relationship between art, nature, and the passage of time.

For a decade, Art on the Trails has transformed the Elaine and Philip Beals Preserve in Southborough, MA into an immersive outdoor gallery, showcasing temporary installations that respond directly to the landscape. The 2026 exhibition celebrates this milestone year by reflecting on time as both a natural force and a human construct—seasonal cycles, environmental change, memory, history, growth, erosion, and renewal.

“Reaching our 10th anniversary is both a celebration and a moment of reflection,” said Program Founder and Director Catherine Weber. “Time in the Landscape invites artists to consider how the land holds stories—of the past, present, and future—and how art can illuminate those narratives in powerful and unexpected ways.”

The 2026 exhibition will be juried by Lisa Barthelson, an accomplished arts leader and curator known for her thoughtful engagement with contemporary art and site-responsive practices. Barthelson brings extensive experience working with artists across disciplines and will guide the selection of works that respond creatively and conceptually to the theme.

Artists working in all media suitable for outdoor, site-specific installation are encouraged to apply. Selected works will be installed along the trails, creating an accessible and dynamic experience for visitors of all ages.

Art on the Trails continues its mission to make contemporary art accessible to broad audiences while fostering meaningful connections between artists, the environment, and the community. The 10th anniversary exhibition promises to be a landmark event celebrating creativity, reflection, and the enduring dialogue between art and nature.

It often takes me a few days to recover and share my final post for Art on the Trails for the year. Once again, we were gifted with a brilliant day and a spectacular turnout for the closing of the 9th Annual Moving Celebration and Poetry walk at Beals Preserve.
