On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are deeply honored and humbled by the incredible turnout and enthusiasm shown for the Snohomish Historical Society this past Sunday.

Seeing so many familiar faces alongside so many new ones was truly energizing and serves as a testament to the growing passion our community has for preserving and sharing Snohomish's rich history.

We are especially grateful to everyone who took the time to attend, ask questions, share ideas, and express interest in becoming involved. Your eagerness to support our mission reminds us why this work is so important.

A special thank you to Taylor for a wonderful presentation that informed, inspired, and brought our shared vision to life.

This past Sunday was more than just a meeting. It was a celebration of community, connection, and the bright future ahead for the Snohomish Historical Society. We are incredibly proud of what our volunteers, committee members, and supporters have accomplished. Together, we're building something truly special.

Join us for a special membership meeting this Sunday, August 16th. This meeting will be open to all - not only members of the Snohomish Historical Society!

Taylor Russell, Society President and Historian, will share lessons from her recent academic study in Newport, Rhode Island, home to some of America’s most celebrated historic house museums. The talk will include a brief history of Newport’s grand mansions and the rise of the historic house museum, followed by practical ideas and resources for caring for, interpreting, and strengthening the Blackman House Museum and Snohomish’s other historic treasures.

The meeting will be held at the Waltz building at 1pm on August 16th. Excited to have you join us this Sunday!

While August was officially summer, my youthful thoughts began to turn to Fall and the start of school. The requisite trips to Harmons, J.C. Penney, Mackies for new school clothes, Mckees for school supplies. As an elementary student, I always hoped to have the coolest lunchbox adorned with The Lone Ranger or some western hero, and I looked forward to returning to the classroom, hoping my best friends would be in my class.
In Jr. High and High School, it was an emotional mixed bag, always a time to reinvent myself, perhaps become a better student, a bit more popular, perhaps even find a girl friend.
As a teacher, August was a time to gear up, to get the classroom in order, to start the year fully prepared, to finally feel like a real teacher.
As a parent I was excited to see our daughters off to school, but the growing up part became increasingly bittersweet, the knowledge that one August, they would be walking out the door for good.

I have a request, pretty please with peanut butter on it. I am looking for pictures of any of the Snohomish Drive-ins in Snohomish, The Hub, Pilchuck, King Charlies back in the day.
I am writing an article for the next Snohomish Historical Society newsletter on summer jobs. If you had a job downtown, or in the many packing plants in town or farm jobs, I would love to see and use them. I don't want to sound desperate.*

I love exploring old Snohomish Tribunes. An article or picture will flesh out vague memories or totally give lie to memories I have held as true for years. The town I grew up in comes to life once again, and the town that existed before I was me takes shape. The derelict buildings of my youth become lively businesses. The names of country roads become real people. And it is a hoot to see what passed for news back in the day.
