Our education programs provide students and the community with insight into many local historical events that affected both Smithtown, and the nation as a whole. Each of our educational programs uses a variety of activities designed to provide an increasing understanding of historical topics. Responding to the need for a greater understanding of Long Island history, the Society has developed outst

anding educational programs for elementary school children designed to complement New York State Curriculum requirements. Our twenty-acre site and historic buildings afford students the opportunity to learn about Farm Life in Early America, experience an 18th Century Innkeeper’s Day, or visit the home of a prominent Smithtown judge in 19th Century Long Island. The education staff leads programs both in the historic homes on the Society’s grounds and in schools through our outreach program. An annual Civil War encampment, offered in conjunction with Long Island Civil War reenactors, gives students an immersive experience into what life was like during the harsh conditions of war.

A lot of work happens behind the scenes before the fun begins.

Our Grounds guys have been hard at work making the trail even more beautiful than last year, including the installation of these new arches. We’re getting everything ready for an exciting lineup of Fall and Winter events.

Stay tuned. We can’t wait to welcome you back!

We’re still going strong celebrating 250 years of American independence here in Smithtown!

Last Saturday, our community came together for a patriotic parade down Main Street, Smithtown and a meaningful ceremony at Town Hall, featuring scout troops, veterans, first responders, fire departments, local businesses & organizations, a full reading of the Declaration of Independence, a symbolic Liberty Bell ringing, and “God Bless America.”

Check out the recap of this unforgettable America 250 celebration!

It was a pleasure to welcome the Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) community from around the world to the Smithtown Historical Society for their three-day retreat.

From exploring our historic grounds and enjoying wagon rides to yoga in the The Franklin O. Arthur Farm, it was wonderful to share our campus with such an inspiring group. A special thank you to Eating for the outstanding food and hospitality that made the experience even more memorable.

Receiving your beautiful thank-you card, filled with handwritten notes from everyone, was the perfect ending to a wonderful few days. It truly means more than you know.

Thank you for choosing the Smithtown Historical Society. We hope to welcome you back again next year!
