Don’t miss the opening reception of Being this Friday, as Jinsik Yoo’s nationally exhibited sculptures make their South Dakota debut at Ipso Gallery.

Since moving from South Korea to the United States, Jinsik Yoo operates primarily in English-speaking contexts. “The way language defines and categorizes seems to me a limitation to our understanding of the broader spectrum of the world. Art serves as a more expansive means of comprehending others and ourselves holistically,” he says.

Thanks to all of our Judiths and to those who attended the Who is Judith Schornmann? opening reception. The show invited 20 artists to free themselves from artistic expectations by creating art under a new persona: Judith Schornmann.

Ahead of his solo show "Secret Door" in 2021, John Peters, a long-time member of our Colony, welcomed us into his home studio to explore his process and reflect on the stories behind his work.

With John's retrospective show, "Just Having Pie," on display at the through June 8, we figured now was the perfect time for the video to see the light of day. We also wrote a little blog post to go along with it.

Examining John Peters' work feels like stumbling upon a culture lost to space and time. Found materials like wood, bone, and glass are carved into towering, twisting skyscrapers that seem to have grown organically from their base, and wizards small enough to sit astutely on the head of a nail.
