Very cool!!!!

If you’ve ever wanted to see the famous cougar shadow on the Superstition Mountains, now is the time!

Each year, this natural phenomenon draws crowds to Apache Junction at sunset as the shadow slowly takes shape on the mountainside. As the sun sinks lower, what looks like a cougar chasing its prey begins to appear.

The shadow is only visible for a short window each year, around the spring and fall equinoxes, making mid September one of the best times to catch it. There are several places around Apache Junction where you can watch it form, but one popular viewing area is near Goldfield Road and Superstition Boulevard.

Since I’ve been traveling for the past two weeks, I won’t make it out there this year. This photo is from last September. I also have a video pinned at the top of my page that shows the shadow forming from start to finish. Have you ever watched the cougar shadow take shape?
