Initiated in 2006, the First Friday Art Walk Sequim is an encouraging and educational arts event that is sponsored and produced by Renne Emiko Brock. The contribution of the venues and artists on the Art Walk and the encouragement and support of the community at large also make it possible. As always, it is free for the public, businesses, and artists of all media to participate. Creating cultural

vitality is financially sound for a population and improves the quality of life in a community. Renne's hopes are that Sequim will become a destination for creative pursuits and products. A thriving arts community benefits all businesses that in turn support artists, educators, and cultural institutions.

During the First Friday Art Walk Sequim at Spoonbar Sweets at 171 W Washington Street has gastronomic treats and support for local artists within their delightful bakery. Wonderful, long time Sequim Artist Ryoko Toyama has donated this fantastic abstract painting to Olympic Peninsula Art Association (OPAA) to help us raise money for their scholarship fund. The painting is titled “Snow Day”.

OPAA will do a 24-hour raffle for the painting beginning during First Friday Art Walk, September 4th. They will sell raffle tickets at Spoon Bar Sweets at that evening, ($5/ticket or 6 tickets for $25.) They will also sell tickets through the day Saturday at Sequim Artisan & Farmers Market, and pull the winning ticket and announce the winner of the painting Saturday evening during the opening of our Member Show at Dandelion Botanical.... one 24-hour period to raise money for a good cause! Sweets with a sweet artist!

The City of Sequim Arts Commission invites the public to attend the exhibit opening and artist reception for Beyond the Canvas, an exhibition that seeks to expand the idea of what an exhibit can be, on Friday, September 4, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Karen Kuznek-Reese Gallery at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 West Cedar Street. Musical entertainment by the Olympic Brass Quintet and light refreshments will be provided.

This exhibition will be on display in the Gallery from September 4 through October 23.
Beyond the Canvas celebrates the many ways art can be made and experienced. Artists were encouraged to think broadly about materials, processes, and presentation. Beyond the Canvas is an opportunity to showcase innovative work and inspire the community through art that reaches beyond the expected, celebrates the diversity of artistic practice in our region, and offers an engaging experience with work that surprises, inspires, and invites conversation.

Sequim Civic Center Gallery Hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Please contact Arts Coordinator Sarah Hurt at [email protected] or (360) 582-2477 for more information.
