Our name stems from the Walter Project’s creation, Walter the Bus - a work of art that aims to inspire creative energy.

We capture that same energy by supporting and celebrating the work of unique and experimental artists. The name “Walter” stems from the Walter Project’s initial creation, Walter the Bus, the World’s Largest Volkswagen Bus. More than a massive replica of a VW Bus, Walter is a work of art that aims to inspire creative energy. The Walter Art Gallery aspires to capture that same energy by supporting and celebrating the work of unique and experimental artists. The gallery also houses an adjacent studio space available for art students and others in need of creative space. Founded in 2012, the Walter Art Gallery is aimed at supporting the overall project as well as benefiting the many artists who display their works.

As Fable comes to a close, take one last look into the surreal world of artist Heather Weller. 🔥

Through an intriguing play of paint, pigment, and light, Weller transforms flames into something almost otherworldly. Her technique creates an ethereal glow that seems to flicker from her different mediums, blurring the line between the tangible and the imagined. There’s something mesmerizing about the way these works capture both the beauty and strangeness of the natural world.

We asked Heather Weller, "Why did you choose 'The Lion’s Share' as the signature piece for Fable?"

She responds, "I felt that 'The Lion’s Share' most strongly embodied the essence of Fable in a single piece. With this series, I considered suffering in relation to the human condition and encountered the work with a series of questions concerning the nature of our suffering.

At the time I made many of these works, I was in a transitory state in life where every step forward came with a punch to the gut. Things started compounding on top of one another, and I fully understood the meaning behind 'when it rains, it pours'. I turned to stories in hopes that they would help my understanding of the human condition and came across the original fable of the lion’s share, a story of wealth accumulation and greed. I took influence from the tale and changed the lion into a figure of compounding misfortune locked in a struggle with its own suffering personified as the snake. This piece speaks to the essence of the collected works. The human condition is suffering, and it is our task to parse through, memorialize, and ultimately survive it in whatever way we can."

A huge thank you to all of the wonderful artists who have shared their work with us in the Walter Art Gallery so far this year. We’re taking a short break to reset, refresh, and get ready to welcome back a familiar artist with a brand-new show!
