Contemporary Celadons from Japan

For nearly 2,000 years, the luminous blue-green hues of celadon have embodied refinement and visual tranquility. This group of works by contemporary Japanese ceramic artists demonstrates the enduring appeal of this medium. Allowing the subtle beauty of the glaze to take center stage, most artists represented here favor clean, understated forms, some drawing inspiration from historic Chinese and Korean vessel types, while others venture into abstract sculpture.

Join artist Andrea Carlson on Oct. 1 at 5:30 PM for Collections and Cannibals at The Ringling.

Carlson will discuss her exhibition "A Constant Sky" and how her work challenges colonial narratives presented by modern artists, museum collections, and cannibal genre horror films.
