"Paint what you love." - David Hockney (1937-2026)

We were deeply saddened to learn about the passing of world-renowned contemporary artist David Hockney late last week. His pools, his portraits, his iPad paintings — all invite viewers to look closer and discover that life is worth seeing.

You can experience an original work by the artist, "Inside It Opens Up As Well," now on view in "Something Borrowed, Something New," and reflect on the impact and legacy of one of the defining artists of the 20th-and 20th-centuries.

SAM TAC is back for summer! ☀️

Sarasota Art Museum’s Teen Arts Council is a paid, year-round program for creative high school students interested in art, museums, and community engagement. Members plan teen events, get behind-the-scenes Museum access, and explore careers in the arts, while gaining real-world experience alongside Museum staff, artists, and peers. We’re thrilled to have these amazing students with us this season!

"Slumpies" by Jillian Mayer is an interactive sculpture series that explores how our bodies adapt to and conform to the devices we can't put down. Equal parts fine art and functional furniture, these bulky, abstract forms invite you to sit, lounge, and reflect on what technology is doing to us.

Over 40 years, Sol LeWitt created more than 350 print projects spanning lithographs, silkscreens, etchings, woodcuts, and more, turning geometric shapes and precise lines into a machine for making art. "Beautiful Ideas: The Prints of Sol LeWitt" brings together over 100 of those works, tracing his evolution from early experiments to bold, mature abstraction.

We're so grateful to Joanna Robotham, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Tampa Museum of Art, Inc., for shining a spotlight on Molly Hatch's "Amalgam" in TAMPA Magazine! 🙌

In her feature, Robotham captures how Hatch's two-story installation of over 400 hand-thrown, hand-painted ceramic plates weaves together centuries of blue-and-white ceramic traditions, from China's Ming Dynasty to Mexican Talavera to 18th-century English china, into one breathtaking work of art.

Senior Curator Rangsook Yoon, Ph.D. invites us into the world of Chinese contemporary artist Ai Weiwei in "Something Borrowed, Something New."

From intricate paper cuttings rooted in a 2,000-year-old craft to a Han Dynasty urn emblazoned with the Coca-Cola logo, Ai's work sparks a conversation between cultural heritage and contemporary consumerism that is as unsettling as it is captivating.
