Ross Ward began carving circus wagons and figures when he was just a teenager, eventually creating the 3-ring wonder on display at Tinkertown Museum.

Ross could put his finger on a few major encounters that set him on his path: the dawn arrival of the circus train, a childhood visit to Knott’s Berry Farm…

The call came in and he answered.

Many thanks to our summer intern, Fae Ordaz. A recent graduate of Oberlin College, Fae spent the last several months photographing and cataloguing much of our vast collection of Ross Ward paintings, drawings, carvings, and etchings. Along the way, we turned up lots of ephemera, and had some great chats about living a creative life. We wish Fae safe travels and happy landings as she moves to the Windy City and her next post at The Chicago International Puppet Theatre Festival.

Gorgeous evening of writing, painting and collage in our latest workshop, “Souvenir Shop: the Art of Found Stories.” So grateful to Rachel Popowcer for technique demonstration, teaching, and challah baking, and our own Tanya Ward Goodman, for writing prompts and behind the scenes tours! Before the bottle walls, there was a geodesic dome! Like the Sandia Mountains, Tinkertown can be described as both sedimentary and conglomerate. Art and nature: ongoing evolution.
