On May 2nd, we gathered for a meaningful day of remembrance at the museum to honor the life of our founder, Dr. Lawrence Gelman. A special Mass, led by Bishop Daniel E. Flores, brought together family and friends in reflection and prayer.

Following the Mass, Bishop Flores offered blessings over a new stained glass window dedicated to Dr. Gelman’s memory. It will now become a permanent part of the museum he so passionately built.

Through light, vision, and faith, his legacy continues—carrying forward our mission to inspire, uplift, educate, and illuminate, while offering our community a treasure for connection and reflection.

Long before Gelman Stained Glass Museum welcomed its first visitors, every beam, window, and carefully crafted detail was guided by the vision of Dr. Lawrence Gelman.

What began as a private collection eventually outgrew garages and warehouses, leading to the creation of a museum — a space where these remarkable works of art could be preserved and shared with the community. Construction began in 2015, and in December 2021, the doors opened to showcase more than 170 stained-glass windows he spent a lifetime collecting.

Plan your visit at https://sales.gelmanmuseum.org/calendar.aspx and experience the beauty, history, and craftsmanship for yourself in San Juan, TX.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our founder, Dr. Lawrence Richard Gelman.

Dr. Gelman was the visionary behind the Gelman Stained Glass Museum and the original curator who brought this extraordinary collection to life. Through his passion and unwavering commitment to the community, he created a space where history, faith, and artistry could be experienced by generations to come.

His legacy will forever live within these walls, in every stained glass window, and in every visitor inspired by his life’s work.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, and all those who had the honor of knowing him.

May he rest in peace, may his legacy continue to shine, and may his memory be a blessing.
