For two years, we have asked the City of San Juan to grant us a meeting to discuss the future of the San Juan Hotel; yet, to this day, they shirk this responsibility—despite the fact that we have been present, without fail, at every meeting over the last two years. The responsibility of elected representatives is to communicate with and support the community; if that is the case, why do they continue to deny us a meeting? What are your thoughts?

On Friday, May 22, 2026, we learned of the passing of Don Ricardo, better known as Richie to the community. Over the past year, we have come to know Richie as he often stopped by Museo 956 to chat. From the very first day, Richie offered to help us and did so on numerous occasions. He spoke to us of his experiences with the Texas Rangers and other law enforcement. Every visit, he spoke of his daughter that he said lived in Mexico. Prior to the city cutting the grass at the Hotel San Juan, Richie did so. He told us he believed that god was on our side and the hotel would be saved. Unfortunately, yesterday, Richie was found without life in an abandoned tow truck at a bar across the street from the San Juan Hotel. It was apparent that he had been living out of the truck for a while. We learned that it was only recently that he became houseless. When we heard of someone that the police found yesterday, we immediately thought of Don Ricardo and after inquiring with others in the neighborhood they confirmed it was him. Richie was ill and we hope he passed peacefully. However, it is heartbreaking to know he passed away houseless in an abandoned car. It's a reminder to all of us how important it is to care for our most vulnerable.

If you knew Richie, do you know his last name? Do you know of any family we could contact?

We are planning on holding a small memorial for Richie just outside of Museo 956 and when we confirm the date & time we will let everyone know.

RIP, Richie.
