Paul Wackers and I professionally "grew up" together. He's been a part of the program since its beginning in 2006, and actually was part of an Adobe Books booth at Aqua Art Miami in 2005.
His inclusion in 20 Years is especially meaningful. Over the years, Paul has also become a dear friend and rock-climbing partner (which we need to do more of together!). I admire Paul in so many ways, he's the most hard-working, consistent painter I've ever known - he is ALWAYS in his studio, experimenting, painting, thinking, and dreaming. He's also an amazing cook and a good listener and an excellent dog dad. Cheers to 20 Paul. I wouldn't be here without you.
Paul's paintings begin with recognizable things—plants, vessels, furniture and studio objects—but never remain straightforward still lifes. Spaces flatten and shift, patterns interrupt one another, and ordinary objects become part of an imagined, almost hallucinatory world.
