In Taos for a couple days and was excited to meet Ari Myers at her gallery . We saw mysterious and beautiful paintings in a show by that still have me reeling a little. It’s rare to walk into a space and have it feel so spot-on. The gallery’s connection to its particular role in the community is inspiring to say the least. Also, she uses a hammer and a screw to open bottles of wine for weary travelers who make the trek!!

Sarah and I are beyond grateful to our amazing supporters who made this gallery such a success. And, while goodbyes are never easy, the gallery will close tomorrow, February 1, at the conclusion of our amazing Damián Ortega exhibition organized together with . We will be joining my great friends Mary Zlot and Sabrina Buell, and Zlot Buell + Associates will become ZBR Advisors. Stay tuned to find out who’s taking over our space. It’s going to be so good!

Transom by .schramm is on view until tomorrow at 5pm. At first glance the sculpture appears to have explosive origins, but our time lapse video reveals the meticulous and rhythmic process the artist used to create this brilliantly engineered, ephemeral sculpture. The piece will be destroyed at the close of our exhibition Jannis Kounellis and Felix Schramm, so don’t miss your last chance to see it in person!

Jannis Kounellis & Felix Schramm opens tonight from 6-8PM.

The show features paintings, sculptures and works on paper by lifelong friends who met in the 90s when Schramm studied with Kounellis at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf.

The show is a meditation on six decades of work by two remarkable artists, culminating with the large-scale sculpture pictured above (Schramm’s first in SF since his solo show at SFMOMA in 2007).

The gallery has been totally transformed by the work of these two artists whose personal and professional lives were connected for more than twenty-five years. Felix studied with Kounellis at the prestigious Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1994-1998 and the two shared a lifelong friendship.

Emphasizing their shared interest in the visual and visceral power of everyday materials, this show will engage your whole body and imagination.

Time for a break.

The gallery will be closed the last two weeks of August.

When we come back after Labor Day, we’ll be getting ready for our opening on September 19th. Our new show, Jannis Kounellis and Felix Schramm, will focus on the character of one of the greatest art schools in the world, the Künstakademie Düsseldorf. Schramm studied with Kounellis from 1993-1997, and in the unique way of the Künstakademie, their relationship was mutually influential and innovative.

to summer of 2007 when one of our favorite artists', Felix Schramm, tore up the walls of SFMOMA. Noting the critical heft of Schramm’s intervention, Glen Helfand wrote in Artforum that his piece felt like "a Home Depot asteroid has crash-landed into pristine institutional space."
