PUAM Creative Kids is back this June with free, hands-on painting workshops designed to spark creativity, self-expression, and connection for children ages 7–12 🎨✨
Children will learn painting techniques with local artists in a creative and supportive environment, and each participant will create their own canvas to take home 🖌️💗

Be part of the legacy of the new Meier Hall mural at Salem State University!

We’re inviting community members, students, families, youth, alumni, neighbors, and friends to help paint the base layers of this exciting new mural alongside artists Gabriela Sepúlveda Ortiz and Melissa Stratton Padina of Hare & Howl.

This is a unique opportunity to participate in a collaborative mural-making experience and leave your mark on a project that will become part of Salem State University’s campus history.

We’re excited to officially announce the final artist team selected through the Meier Hall voting process over the last few weeks. With participation from 368 voters, including Salem State University alumni, staff, students, neighbors, and community members affiliated with the university, we’re proud to share that Hare + Howell Collaborative, featuring artists Gabriela Sepúlveda Ortiz and Melissa Stratton Pandina , has been selected to move forward with the design and installation of the new mural at Meier Hall this June.

Stay tuned for more details, opportunities to get involved through upcoming community paint day (“paint party”), and behind-the-scenes social media updates documenting the development of this momentum-building mural over the next month.

We’re thrilled to have them on board. Congratulations to the selected team, and thank you to everyone who participated, voted, commented, and applied throughout this process. It has truly been a meaningful and inspiring experience for all of us.

We’re excited to invite families to register their kids (ages 8–12) for a special hands-on art experience with local artist **Yixuan Zen** 🎉

Yixuan is the talented painter behind the beloved *Oswald’s Ocean* sculpture at **Palmer Cove Park** and many vibrant murals throughout the Point neighborhood, and now she’s sharing her skills with the next generation! 💙

🌳 MURAL HIGHLIGHT: Kedrin Frias 🌳

We’re honored to spotlight a new mural by Kedrin Frias , an artist, educator, and father whose work centers connection, lineage, and the immigrant experience.

For this mural, Kedrin turns inward, painting a portrait of his daughter, Adeline. Rendered in black-and-white (or a restrained, monochromatic palette), Adeline appears as a tree growing from her mixed roots, a living symbol of heritage and becoming. She embodies the intertwined Dominican and Dutch/British ancestry of her parents, branches reaching forward, roots holding many stories.

This mural is both intimate and expansive: a father honoring his child, and an artist offering a mirror to immigrants and mixed-heritage families across generations. It celebrates identity not as a single origin, but as growth, layered, resilient, and alive.

🖤 **MURAL SPOTLIGHT: *T.H.E R.A.V.E.N E.X.I.T.S E.A.R.T.H*** 🖤

We’re honored to highlight ***T.H.E R.A.V.E.N E.X.I.T.S E.A.R.T.H***, a powerful mural by **Naijah Nine**, that invites viewers into a raw and deeply human conversation around trauma, mental health, and marginality.

This mural is part of Naijah’s ongoing exploration of the **complexities of the human experience**, centered on authentic portrayals of BIPOC subjects. Through portraiture and character-driven imagery, *T.H.E R.A.V.E.N E.X.I.T.S E.A.R.T.H* challenges historical misrepresentation and harmful narratives, making space instead for truth, vulnerability, and healing.

Naijah’s multidisciplinary practice treats art as more than visual expression, it is a tool for community reflection, growth, and collective healing. The mural confronts difficult realities while also offering the possibility of transformation, asking us to consider how we process trauma and how understanding can emerge through shared stories.

A Boston-based artist and MassArt BFA graduate, Naijah is currently expanding their practice through experimental painting, woodworking, and mixed-media installations, with a strong desire to bring this work beyond Boston and into broader public dialogue.
