We welcomed our first World Cup traveler today at the museum!! Paul from England taught us about the World Cup and his travels, and he learned about Garland's history! If you're visiting and want to learn more about local history, be sure to stop by the Garland Landmark Museum!

The museum is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm and is located at 393 N Sixth Street in Downtown Garland.

Congressman Ralph M. Hall was born in Fate, Texas, and dedicated much of his life to public service, representing Rockwall County at the local, state, and national levels of government. On December 25, 2012, he became the oldest serving member in the recorded history of the U.S. House of Representatives, a distinction that reflected his long and distinguished political career.

In this photograph, Congressman Hall makes a special appearance at a Fourth of July celebration hosted by the First United Methodist Church of Heath at the home of the Condor family. Pictured with Hall are longtime church members Dennis Condor, who also served as chairman of the Heath Planning and Zoning Commission; his wife, Catherine Condor; and Brett Thames.

The 28th annual Dallas History Conference welcomes proposals that illuminate this colorful and relevant overlooked past, from the ephemeral to the institutional. Papers may explore social and political activism, underground and alternative publications, avant-garde local figures, LGBTQ nightlife and community spaces, experimental and subversive art scenes, and any ideas and individuals who challenged civic and cultural norms.

Well before go-karts, 4-wheelers or motorized children's vehicles, the goat cart was a popular and fun method of transportation. Goats were harnessed to pull small wooden wagons or carts that children would ride, and goat cart races were popular in some communities!
