What a wonderful open house at the Shorty Lawson Museum.

We had a fantastic crowd join us for a day of stories, history and conversation.

Located in the home where Cornell “Shorty” Lawson and his family lived for nearly 50 years, the museum honors Shorty’s life while also telling the broader story of Black tenant farmers throughout the tobacco-growing South. Through oral histories, art and firsthand stories, visitors were able to get a glimpse into the work, challenges and everyday life that shaped generations of families in our community.

Following the Person Veterans Council Parade, stop by the museum for a morning of community, remembrance, and appreciation for our veterans. We’re excited to have the RCS Band performing as part of the gathering! 🎶

The Person County Museum of History and the Shorty Lawson Museum of the Black Tenant Farmer invite you to a special Open House on Saturday, October 10 from 10:30 AM–3:00 PM in Hurdle Mills.

Explore the museum and learn more about the stories, experiences and history preserved within this unique space. Guided tours will be offered at 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM.

🇺🇸 What a day for history!

Hundreds of you joined us for the Early American Living History Fair and we couldn’t be more grateful for everyone who helped make this event such a success.

To our incredible volunteers, living history interpreters, community organizations, partners, sponsors, vendors, and everyone who gave their time and talents - THANK YOU! And to every person who came out to experience the day with us, thank you for being part of something so special.
