What does faith look like when it is lived?

That question sits at the heart of ROOTED: The Journey of a Living Faith.

Bringing together the work of Lorraine Simonds and Shantel Miller, Rooted explores faith not as something static, but as something shaped through people, memory, experience, community, and the passage of time.

Within the exhibition, the artists approach that journey from distinct perspectives.

In this Reel, Shantel offers a glimpse into the experiences and relationships that inform her work—reminding us that faith is often revealed in the ordinary: in the people who surround us, the communities that form us, and the moments that become part of who we are.

Placed in conversation with Lorraine Simonds’ work, these perspectives create something larger—a visual story about the ways faith takes root, grows, sustains us, and is carried forward.

And that story unfolds differently when you stand before the work yourself.

ROOTED is officially underway at CARE Gallery. 🌿

What a beautiful beginning.

Art, storytelling and community came together as we opened ROOTED, featuring the work of Lorraine Simonds and Shantel Miller—an exhibition exploring the people, places, relationships and experiences that ground us and shape who we are becoming.

Guests heard directly from Lorraine Simonds during an engaging Artist Talk and experienced her creative process firsthand through a live watercolor portrait demonstration.

Shantel Miller’s thoughtful paintings deepen the conversation through explorations of faith, identity, community and belonging—offering another compelling perspective on what it means to be rooted.

Together, their works invite us to consider:
What keeps us rooted—and what grows from those roots?
