The Science Museum of Western Virginia is the oldest science museum in Virginia, founded in 1970 by a group of teachers and community volunteers to provide informal science experiences to enhance education in the classroom. While the organization has grown and moved into larger and more accessible facilities, it has never strayed from its mission focus.

We can’t wait to celebrate fall with you! 🍂 Get your calendars ready! Please note that our new fall opening hours are Wednesday - Saturday 10AM-5PM and Sundays 1PM-5PM. We are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

We’re putting the finishing touches on a jam-packed fall, and it’s our last hurrah in this building. Programs, shows, and events from September straight through December!

We are closed today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday) as we are still working hard to deep clean and get our galleries ready for fall! 🧹🍂

We can’t wait to see you this Saturday and Sunday and introduce you to some of our new friendly faces at the museum! One is Daisy! Our new one-year-old Sulcata Tortoise also known as an African Spurred Tortoise! Come on down and give Daisy a warm welcome!!! ❤️🤗

Weekends can be a great time to visit the museum! Enjoy smaller crowds, more room at the exhibits, and more time to chat with our team!

A huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for our first Volunteer Move Day! 💛

We are incredibly grateful to the wonderful team from Elbit System , along with the many museum supporters, patrons, friends, and community members(some not pictured here) who gave their time and energy to help us pack, catalog, organize, and move our collections.

Moving a museum is no small undertaking, and days like today remind us just how fortunate we are to have this community behind us.

We simply could not do this without you. Thank you for showing up for the Science Museum of Western Virginia. 💙

🌟 Sometimes you just need to STARFISH and RESET. 😂 (Get it? Starfish - start fresh 😂)

The Science Museum will be CLOSED Monday - Friday starting August 17th - August 30th for a fall reset while we get things refreshed and ready for an awesome season ahead!

All weekends will be open during our usual Saturday & Sunday hours!

We will resume normal weekday hours Wednesday, September 1st 💙🔬✨
