🎨 Canvas, Colors, and Creativity 🎨

At our latest workshop at Redmond Elementary School, students and families came together to explore flower painting on canvas.

Many of the students who joined are familiar faces who continue to show up every time, and it’s been special to watch these workshops grow into a space that feels like a small A Slice of Art family. Together, we experimented with colors and textures while creating floral artwork, with each student bringing their own ideas and personality to the canvas.

Workshops like these continue to remind us how art can bring people, conversations, and creativity into the same space.

Special thanks to Redmond Elementary PTSA and Expressions Arts for supporting these workshops and helping us continue creating community spaces through art.

🎞️ FEATURED FILMS

🎨 SHADES OF LIFE

A Film by Expressions Arts

Expressions Arts presents its debut short film, Shades of Life — a story where art becomes both the wound and the healing. 🖌️✨

Shades of Life follows Mitra, a 12-year-old girl whose life has been deeply shaped—and scarred—by art. What once held meaning has become intertwined with pain, as her past and present pull her further into a seemingly endless abyss.

Yet, within that darkness lies a lingering question—can the very thing that broke her also begin to heal her? Can a thorn be removed by another thorn? And can even the faintest flicker of light find its way through art? 🌑✨

🌟 THE DREAMS WE HOLD

A Film by Expressions Arts

The Dreams We Hold is a heartfelt story about dreams, perseverance, friendship, and believing in yourself even when faced with challenges and self-doubt. Through emotional storytelling and meaningful performances, the film reminds us that hope, courage, and kindness can shape the future we dream of. ✨💛

The UNITY STELLAR AWARD by Expressions Arts is a distinguished honor presented to recipients of the Expressions Arts Micro-Grant who are creating meaningful impact in the community through creativity, compassion, leadership, and service. 🌟💕

🎊 PROJECT IMPACT STORY – MEANINGFUL ACTIONS 🎊

Meaningful Actions is a youth-led initiative founded by Mihika Venkateswar and Smera Venkateswar, dedicated to bringing comfort, encouragement, and support to NICU babies, cancer patients, and families navigating difficult medical journeys. 💜

Through volunteer-driven workshops, donation programs, and community service projects, the initiative transforms small acts of kindness into meaningful moments of care and connection.

🌍 Throughout the year, Meaningful Actions expanded its outreach nationwide, delivering donations to all 50 states and partnering with 70 hospitals to support patients and their families.

🧶 Volunteers ranging in age from 4 to 92 years old came together through hands-on service workshops to create and package more than 450 handmade items, including NICU hats, blankets, encouragement cards, and worry worms.

💌 Every item was thoughtfully created to provide comfort, hope, and a reminder that families facing challenging circumstances are not alone.

✨ Beyond the donations themselves, these workshops empowered community members to give back through creativity and service, demonstrating how collective action and compassion can create a lasting impact.

🤝 Meaningful Actions remains committed to its mission of supporting patients and families through kindness, volunteerism, and community engagement, ensuring that encouragement and care reach those who need it most.

🙏 A heartfelt thank you to Expressions Arts for supporting this initiative through funding, mentorship, guidance, and encouragement through the Expressions Arts Micro-Grant Program.

💖 Special appreciation goes to Lavanya Venkateswar for serving as the adult mentor and for her continued guidance, leadership, and support of the Meaningful Actions team.

✨ Through service, compassion, and meaningful action, Mihika and Smera continue to make a difference in the lives of families across the country — one act of kindness at a time.

💫 A SLICE OF ART
Founded by Ananya Nimmagadda

The UNITY STELLAR AWARD by Expressions Arts is a distinguished honor presented to recipients of the Expressions Arts Micro-Grant who are creating meaningful impact in the community through creativity, leadership, storytelling, and service. 🌟💕

This award celebrates youth changemakers who use art and media as powerful tools to inspire connection, amplify voices, uplift communities, and encourage positive social change.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🎊 PROJECT IMPACT STORY – A SLICE OF ART 🎊

Every story has the power to change the way we see the world. A Slice of Art was created with the mission of finding those stories — and sharing them. 🎥🎨✨

Founded by Ananya Nimmagadda, A Slice of Art is a youth-led platform dedicated to spotlighting artists, authors, community leaders, and changemakers making a difference in their communities.

Over the past year, the initiative has interviewed a wide range of voices — from artists and authors to mayors, councilmembers, state representatives, and even a Washington State senator. Through interviews, event coverage, blogs, and media storytelling, A Slice of Art has shared more than 100 inspiring stories, highlighting not only what people create, but why they create and the impact they leave behind.

💜 One especially meaningful moment came after an interview when a viewer shared that the message — to enjoy the process and stay in the game — was exactly what they needed to hear at that point in their life. Moments like these continue to reinforce the importance of storytelling — not just as information, but as a source of encouragement, connection, and hope.

🎨 Beyond storytelling, A Slice of Art also focuses on building spaces where creativity brings communities together. Over the past year, dozens of students participated in free after-school art workshops hosted at Redmond Elementary, where families often created art side-by-side, building confidence, friendships, and meaningful memories together.

✨ This year, the initiative also expanded its community impact by raising $1,500 in support of the Global Peace Initiative’s Peace Monument Project — demonstrating how creativity and community can come together to support meaningful causes and inspire unity.

🙏 A Slice of Art is deeply grateful to Expressions Arts — the foundation from which the initiative began — and to the Expressions Arts Micro-Grant Program for supporting its continued growth in storytelling, workshops, and community outreach efforts.

🌍 As the initiative continues to grow, A Slice of Art remains committed to sharing stories, building connections, amplifying voices, and creating spaces where people feel seen, valued, and inspired.

✨ Through storytelling, creativity, and compassion, A Slice of Art continues to remind us that every story matters.

💫 SKETCHBOOK STUDIOS
Co-Founded by Rehet Kapoor & Siri Mutalik Desai

The UNITY STELLAR AWARD by Expressions Arts is a distinguished honor presented to recipients of the Expressions Arts Micro-Grant who are making a meaningful impact in the community through creativity, leadership, and service. 🌟💕

This award celebrates young changemakers who use art, innovation, and collaboration to inspire others, foster inclusion, and create opportunities for learning and connection within the community.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🎊 PROJECT IMPACT STORY – SKETCHBOOK STUDIOS 🎊

Rehet Kapoor and Siri Mutalik Desai co-founded Sketchbook Studios with the vision of proving that children are born scientists. Their goal was to create an engaging environment where children could explore STEAM — Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math — in a fun, creative, and hands-on way. 🧪🎨✨

They began by developing lesson plans and teaching workshops at local daycares and community organizations. Soon after, they received a total of $1,850 through the Expressions Arts Micro-Grant Program — a moment that inspired them to dream even bigger.

With the support of the grant, they partnered with Sammamish Montessori School to launch Imagine Labs, a program where Sketchbook Studios volunteers taught weekly STEAM lessons to students. Since piloting Imagine Labs, they have helped raise over $9,000 for Expressions Arts through their efforts and community involvement.

🌟 They later expanded their workshops to Redmond Elementary, where they continued building meaningful connections with students and families while working alongside a team of volunteers and adult mentors.

This year, Sketchbook Studios broadened its impact even further — reaching over 130 individuals across the community through collaborations with schools, clubs, and extracurricular organizations.

🎨 Their community outreach included:
✨ Painting and bedazzling workshops
✨ A community mural celebrating diversity and inclusion
✨ Team-bonding painting activities
✨ Three bookmark bedazzling workshops where over 100 handmade bookmarks were donated to seniors across 10 nursing homes 💌

The Expressions Arts Micro-Grant Program not only provided funding for quality materials and workshops, but also empowered these young leaders to grow as educators, organizers, and changemakers. Adult mentors supported them behind the scenes by helping with curriculum design, volunteer coordination, leadership development, and community outreach.

🙏 Rehet and Siri are incredibly grateful to Expressions Arts, the adult mentors, and the Sketchbook Studios volunteers — especially Aishani and Vedika — for helping transform Imagine Labs from a dream into a reality.

Together, they continue to spread the joy of STEAM education, creativity, and community connection — making the world a little brighter through art. 💕✨
