We had an amazing first mindfulness drawing class today, where our young artists created magical worlds from their own imaginations.
We began with a few minutes of square breathing, a gentle warm-up exercise for the mind to help us focus and enter a creative space. Today’s theme was "Fairytale Street."
Methuki is my silent artist. Her main character was a fairy, and since it was her birthday, the whole street was alive with celebration: sparkling party lights, the smell of cakes from the bakery, and colorful houses by the side of a magical gravel road.
What I loved most were her imaginative houses. One was decorated with an upside-down flower like a beautiful roof, and another had honey dripping down its walls like a beehive.
These wonderful ideas came from the imagination of a nine-year-old artist.
Moments like these remind me that when children are given space to think, dream, and create, their imagination can build entire worlds.
Then came Vinudi’s magical world. Her main character was a kind fairy witch who creates potions to help everyone’s crops flourish. She imagined herself brewing these special potions in a large magical pot, preparing to share them with her community.
Her Fairytale Street was filled with color, imagination, and thoughtful details. Watching her bring her ideas to life on paper was truly inspiring, and I cannot wait to see her finished masterpiece.
I especially love how they created characters who were not only magical but also caring and connected to their communities: such a beautiful example of how children naturally weave empathy into their stories.
Then came Devmi, who was joining Outschool for the very first time. She imagined a playful world where SpongeBob’s magical universe met a gingerbread family. Her magnificent pineapple house became the center of a funny little story: every time the gingerbread woman stepped outside her home, SpongeBob would appear and scare her away, creating a silly little conflict in their fairytale neighborhood.
She carefully began adding colors, choosing warm, bright hues to bring her imaginative world to life. It was wonderful to see how each child engaged in mindfulness through art, putting their thoughts to paper, building stories, and expressing their unique creativity.
From a fairy’s birthday celebration to a kind fairy witch helping her community and a humorous SpongeBob-inspired gingerbread world, each drawing reflected a completely different imagination and personality.
I cannot wait to see these young artists again in our next session and see where their creative journeys take us. I should say that I was completely immersed in their imaginative worlds for a moment ♥️
