Artist Statement: This piece is inspired by The Breakers and Newport's Cliff Walk in Newport, Rhode Island. Growing up in Rhode Island, I spent countless hours on the Cliff Walk with my family, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the grand estates of America's Gilded Age. It was a place we visited often; I think my mother especially loved the beauty of the architecture rising above the sea. As a child, I was captivated by the scale, craftsmanship, and elegance of these historic mansions. Their architecture sparked my imagination and fostered an early appreciation for art, beauty, and the relationship between the built environment and the natural landscape. For me, this work is about more than beautiful architecture overlooking the ocean. It is about nostalgia, belonging, and the way certain places stay with us long after we have left them behind. The memories I made there with my family remain some of my most treasured, and this painting is a reflection of both the place itself and the lasting impression it left on me.
