Larkin Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of the remarkable works of Samuel Edmund Oppenheim (1901-1992), on display until October 2026. Oppenheim's unique artistic approach, characterized as 'Romantic Realism,' masterfully combines technical proficiency with the lyrical, expressive qualities of Impressionism. Having studied under the esteemed guidance of Charles Hawthorne in Provincetown and other prominent instructors in the 1930s, Oppenheim later taught at the Art Student's League in New York, where his classes were highly respected. While his realistic portraits are equally impressive, it is his Impressionist works that have garnered widespread recognition, and a selection of which are featured in this exhibition.

Coming soon to Larkin Galley Provincetown: Paintings by SAMUEL EDMUND OPPENHEIM from the family’s private collection. Oppenheim was an influential American Impressionist painter and teacher who is best known for his romantic realism and charming easel pictures. His diverse body of work frequently featured professional portraits, idyllic landscapes with mothers and children, lush floral still lifes, and Victorian interiors. Larkin Gallery is pleased to announce the presentation of several sculptures from the Bud Hambleton Collection. Hambleton initially ran a steel and brass cutting company after returning from World War II (where he earned a Bronze Star). This industrial background gave him a unique mastery over welding tools. He studied sculpture under professor William Ehrich at the University of Rochester before committing to his art practice full-time in the 1960s. Hambleton also worked in bronze and clay, creating both representational and abstract forms.
