Despite the intense weather brought by Hurricane Rachel this weekend, our roses are still in bloom, and the trees across the grounds of Sharlot Hall Museum are beginning to show their beautiful fall colors!

It’s the perfect time to remind our fans that Sharlot Hall Museum is more than a museum — it’s also an accredited arboretum!

Prescott’s Sharlot Hall Museum has earned Level I Accreditation through the ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program and The Morton Arboretum, recognizing our commitment to professional standards for arboreta and botanical gardens.

ArbNet is the only global initiative dedicated to accrediting arboreta based on their development, capacity, and professionalism. This distinction also places Sharlot Hall Museum in the Morton Register of Arboreta, an international directory celebrating arboreta and gardens dedicated to woody plants.

WHAT AN IMPRESSIVE DISPLAY OF CREATIVITY AND CURIOSITY!

Sharlot Hall Museum was delighted to welcome students from the Granite Mountain Homeschool Community on Friday, October 9, for a special History Fair celebrating the completion of their Arizona History Course!

Students in grades 8–12 showcased their research projects in a science fair-style format, sharing their findings and answering questions from visitors in the Education Center Auditorium. After spending six weeks learning about Arizona history through the lens of Sharlot Hall Museum and its campus, these young historians brought their knowledge to life in some truly engaging ways.

We were so impressed by the students’ enthusiasm, creativity, and thoughtful approach to Arizona history! Their projects offered fresh perspectives on our state’s past and reminded us just how exciting history can be when explored by the next generation.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to the Granite Mountain Homeschool Program, its students, and everyone who helped make this special event possible. We are proud to have been part of their Arizona history journey and look forward to seeing what these young historians accomplish next!

It’s Living History Adventure day at Sharlot Hall Museum, and we’re cooking up something special!

Today’s theme is “Harvest Feast: Recipes of the West,” and we’re bringing the flavors of the frontier to life!

Autumn harvests brought pioneer families together to prepare hearty meals using local crops and game. Discover how early settlers turned their seasonal harvests into delicious dishes that sustained them through the colder months. Visitors can explore traditional recipes, watch cooking demonstrations, and even make and take home their own spice mix and recipe card!

And before you head home, be sure to stop by the Depot and Museum Store! We have bonnets and aprons available in all sizes, perfect for young pioneers and anyone looking to bring a little piece of frontier life home.

Come celebrate the flavors, traditions, and ingenuity of Arizona’s pioneer past. Enjoy a taste of history and take home a little something to remember your adventure!

A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who joined us last night for our Member-Only event celebrating the photography of Terrence Moore and the official opening of our newest Center Gallery America 250 exhibition, "Travelling Arizona: All Roads Led to Prescott!"

Guests enjoyed delicious food, lively conversation, and the opportunity to mingle with photographer Terrence Moore himself. Along the way, we shared stories, memories, and personal experiences with the legendary Mother Road, Route 66, celebrating the history and nostalgia that continue to make it an American icon.

Featuring striking photographs that capture the character and enduring legacy of Route 66, the exhibition includes "The Navajo Motel," one of Moore’s featured photographs, now on display at Sharlot Hall Museum.

Thank you to our members for making this such a memorable evening and for being part of the excitement as we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary through the stories, people, and places that shaped our nation.

THIS WEEK’S DAY’S PAST: A TASTE OF FRONTIER LIFE!

What was on the menu in early Yavapai County? Frontier cooking was all about creativity, resourcefulness, and making the most of what was available. Before the railroad reached Prescott in the late 1880s, food could be expensive and difficult to obtain. From hearty beef and venison potpies to homemade lemonade substitutes, iced tea, and even extravagant shipments of Baltimore oysters, historic recipes offer a fascinating taste of life in Arizona’s territorial days.
