Aisling's Studio

Directions Website

Aisling's Studio At "Aisling's Studio," I share my fine art (landscape paintings, mixed-media art, and more). And yes, by late 2026, I promise to post more often. I like that.

(2026 has been a busy travel-travel kind of year. Over a dozen U.S. states visited so far!) Since the mid-1990s, when few women were online, I've been "Aisling D'Art." It seemed a good privacy measure at the time, and - since then - most online (and many offline) friends know me by that name. I make things... art (fine art, pen & ink sketches, art journals, fabric art, mixed media, zines, mailart, art shrines, artistamps) and more. I've taught at more events than I can recall, but some include Art & Soul, Artfest, Creating!, Dragon Con, and... well, you get the idea. In general, I avoid the camera and prefer what I actually DO to get the attention. You can find me at my original website, Aisling.net

I'll be working on art today. It's impossible NOT to be inspired by this morning's view from our front porch! (We're still in Dunedin, Florida, and heading to Orlando on Thursday.)

This week, I'm working on completing the free artcard mailings. (There were a LOT of requests!)

In the future, I plan to resume sending free artcards, but on a VERY limited basis.

And, after we're back up in New England, there will be an actual Snail Mail Club, as well. That's going to feature a LOT more, and get me back on track with artzines, etc.

For now, we're getting ready to move across Florida - from Dunedin to just outside Orlando.

Then, by late October, we plan to return to New England, hopefully for the winter.

Art is back on the table, literally and figuratively, and - as I'm writing this - I'm getting ready to try some small experimental paintings. 😁 Stay tuned for photos!

My favorite photo from yesterday, taken on our current Airbnb's front porch in Dunedin, Florida. Much of the sky was this wonderful peach color!

So, I already knew that I needed to update my Aisling.net website. Over 200 articles, and some over 10 years old...? Even 20 years old, in some cases...? 🤨 Yes, changes must be made.

However, as I dug into this, I realized this is a FAR bigger project than I'd realized. Old links need updating. Old resources and some techniques...? Ditto.

There are more layers to all of this, but - for at least the next month or so - my website is likely to be messy. In fact, we'll be on the road again (Florida for two weeks, then NH, then coastal Maine), so I'll be wedging the site redesign between travel, art, and photography.

Wheeeee! 🤓

Though I'm still mulling over what I want to do with my Substack, a NY Times article sparked enough "ah-HA!" moments to post about AI, how we pace our lives, and our general creativity: https://artandotherthings.substack.com/p/the-importance-of-the-journey

Right now, Todd and I are in Dunedin, Florida. We wanted to explore it - a place I'd enjoyed living in, in the past - as a place to put down roots.

So far, despite appealing housing prices, the negatives (OMG traffic on Hwy 19, worse than I'd recalled, and flooding risks, especially during a "super El Nino" year...) are outweighing the beautiful beaches and lovely sunsets.

We'll be in Orlando for a couple of weeks in October, and then - probably - going back to New England.

For us, this is a continuing "process of elimination" in terms of where we want to live for the next year or so, as well as helping me focus on my career priorities.

Art is imminent! 😉

...and how it affect creativity

Art is ahead. Lots & lots of art.

I'll share what's changed, as soon as I get this started... but it's taking me in several fresh, cool, exciting directions with my art. 😁

For now, we're still in Florida, but returning to Maine in a couple of weeks. And, once we're there - where most of my art supplies are - I'll be eager to show you what's ahead!

As I'm making broad changes in my art, and how I share it, I need to remember this.

As I'm making broad changes in my art, and how I share it, I need to remember this.

Louise Bourgeois’s quote “Don’t be careful. You could hurt yourself.” is deliberately contradictory.

She’s suggesting that being too cautious can become its own kind of danger. If you’re constantly afraid of making mistakes, taking risks or being vulnerable, you can hold yourself back from truly living and creating.

For artists especially, it’s a reminder: take risks, experiment, make mistakes. Being too careful can stop you from making the work that matters.

On 9/11 - the actual day of the tragedy - I had received one of the 1000 journals that was part of a massive round-robin art project.

Each of us was asked to add one or two pages of art to the blank journal we received, and then send it on to the next person on the list.

A bit numb and shaking, as we all watched 9/11 unfold, I created a torn-paper collage in the journal, and added a handwritten page.

Later, when the "best of" that journals project was published, my 9/11 pages were included. (That book is available at Amazon. It's called the "1000 Journals Project" and the author is "Someguy" with an intro by Kevin Kelly.)

Here's a photo of part of my two pages.

In two or three days, a LOT is going to change here... and start changing at my website.

Why...? Because, after many months of hopping around the eastern U.S., mostly in hotels but also in Airbnbs, we're renting a home near Clearwater, Florida. We'll be there for about a month, and that will give me time for a LOT of postponed projects! Wheeee! 😁
