Join Crit Lab artist Colleen Coleman in celebrating the unsung leaders of climate resilience: Grandmothers! Unlike other species, humans uniquely sustain post-menopausal women, whose wisdom and labor survives generations. SILVERS honors this matriarchal legacy by centering the voices of women over fifty who are leading environmental justice movements, stewarding land, and redefining sustainability through lived experience.

The Crit Lab is designed for artists who are committed to building a sustained practice, who value rigorous critique, thoughtful dialogue, and the exchange of ideas.

Artists who believe that making work is stronger when it’s supported by community, accountability, and consistent feedback.

Artists who are looking not only for critique, but for opportunities to grow beyond the studio.

As a member of The Crit Lab, you’ll join a community that extends beyond weekly sessions through our private Mighty Networks platform, where conversations, resources, and connections continue throughout the year. You’ll also gain access to artist talks, residency opportunities, our Crit Lab Exhibition, and a growing network of artists, curators, and collaborators.

If you’re looking for a space to deepen your practice while becoming part of an engaged artistic community, we’d love to welcome you.

Fall Lab is nearly full, and only a few spots remain. Apply through the link in our bio✨

Critical.Ethical.Art.

These three words are the guiding principle for The Crit Lab. This includes structure, organization, and pedagogy. And most importantly, community.

Critical
A strong pedagogical structure can help us be accountable, to see one another, and our world, clearly and respectfully, as distinct beings within a shared humanity, while applying a compassionate critical lens to the work.

Ethical
Ethics translates into care - generosity and reciprocity with one another, rigorous thoughtfulness, brave safe spaces in resilient community. Art makes a space of empathy.

Art
The Crit Lab is artist first, always. This reflects my belief in the immense power of art to embody one human story in a world of stories, rooted in a particular time, place, and history. Art holds the knowable and unknowable in a moment of intimate encounter, the beauty and horror and joy and grief, sung through material objects made by a human hand.

There are real and intractable issues in our world. None of us can address them all, or even many. Neither can we ignore our position in the fracas.

There are also incalculable joys and beauty.

Art can help us not hide inside our safety, be blinded by false optimism, or mired in hopeless nihilism. The craft of making can keep the touch of humanity visible, resilient, and defiantly connected, grounded for whatever this future may bring.

In the Lab and in all of my work with artists, as well as in my own practice, these are my core values. I am an artist among artists. Together we push our vision, and the language around it, inside ecosystems where the work can thrive.

Introducing Thursday AM Main Lab artists and ✨

This season, we’re bringing together a group of artists whose practices are rooted in observation, imagination, and a deep curiosity about the world around us. Through painting, collage, drawing, photography, and mixed media, their work explores landscapes both real and imagined, the patterns and systems found in nature, and the ways memory, language, and materiality shape our understanding of place.

From evocative terrains that blur the line between recollection and invention to layered abstractions inspired by biological forms, growth, and coded systems of communication, these artists invite us to consider how meaning emerges through process, connection, and close attention.

We’re excited to see the conversations, insights, and unexpected intersections that will unfold as this cohort spends the semester learning from one another, sharing work, and building community through dialogue.

At The Crit Lab, Labs are thoughtfully curated to foster meaningful engagement, dialogue, and connection.

Participants are placed in groups that share conceptual affinities, thematic intersections, and productive differences, creating a dynamic environment for critical exchange.

Through sustained peer dialogue, artists deepen their ideas, expand their perspectives, and build lasting relationships. The result is not only stronger work, but greater confidence, resilience, and community.

Applications for Fall Labs are now open.

This season, the Wednesday AM Nxt Lvl Lab ✨

— Leah Caroline explores grief, spirituality, and transformation through layered rituals of photography, drawing, writing, and cyanotype, creating works that function as intimate maps of the psyche.

— Rima Grad constructs fragmented yet luminous collages where memory, texture, and symbolism converge into poetic visual narratives suspended between dream and archive.

— John Sproul creates paintings and monoprints rooted in everyday encounters and shared spaces, examining loneliness, intimacy, and the emotional distortions of contemporary life.
