Join the ISU Fine Arts Club and Pocatello Art Center for an evening with internationally acclaimed illustrator and painter Thomas Blackshear II. Supported by the Bistline Foundation, Idaho Community Foundation, and ISU Student Fine Arts Club, this event offers the community a rare chance to learn from a celebrated contemporary artist.

Throughout the evening, Blackshear will share about his insights into painting design, composition, and visual storytelling. Attendees will also get a peek at some of his incredible work throughout his career.

Known for his draftsmanship, dramatic lighting, and powerful narrative imagery, Blackshear’s work has earned national recognition across the fields of illustration and fine art. His paintings have appeared in major museum exhibitions and prestigious publications, and in 2020 he was inducted into the Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame.

This is a rare opportunity for aspiring artists and the Pocatello community to meet a living artistic legend.

Join us at the Pocatello arts center for:
Luminous Still Life in Watercolor:
An Introduction to Pouring Techniques

September 19, 2026
9:00 AM–4:00 PM
Cost: $45 for IWS Members

Leslie will guide you step by step through her signature pouring process, including planning values, preserving light with masking fluid, selecting transparent pigments, and building depth through successive pours. Along the way, you'll gain a deeper understanding of color relationships, value structure, and how to allow the watercolor to do much of the work for you.

This workshop is suitable for adventurous beginners through experienced watercolorists who are curious about expanding their painting techniques.

No previous experience with poured watercolor is necessary.

🌞 We are celebrating the completion of our year-long caricature project – an exhibition filled with personality, laughter, remarkable faces, and the stories behind them.

🖌️ Beason, along with representatives from the Pocatello Art Center, visited senior centers and care facilities throughout the region, including the local Veterans Home. Beason drew seniors, capturing not only their likenesses but also their humor, character, and unique spirit. The finished original drawings were framed and presented to the seniors as gifts.

🎨 Nearly 100 caricatures were completed during the project. Copies of the drawings will be on display at the Pocatello Art Center during August and September.
