Plimoth Patuxet Museums is open for the 2026 Season now through the Sunday following Thanksgiving Day. Plimoth Patuxet Museums offer powerful personal encounters with history built on thorough research about the Wampanoag People and the Colonial English community in the 1600s. Today, Plimoth Patuxet provides an engaging and experiential outdoor and indoor learning environment on its main campus (17th Century English Village and the Historic Patuxet Wampanoag Homesite), at Mayflower II, and at the Plimoth Grist Mill on Town Brook. Our permanent exhibits tell the complex and interwoven stories of two distinct cultures - English and Native. The main exhibits are enhanced with an exciting menu of special events, public programs and workshops that offer a rich and diverse exploration of the 17th-century. Generations of families, millions of school children and countless people from all over the world have visited here and participated in Plimoth Patuxet’s educational experiences that spark the imagination, delight the senses, touch the heart and enrich the mind.

For the Wampanoag People, the tradition of making a mishoon—a dugout canoe crafted from a single tree through a process of controlled burning—continues as a living cultural practice. Earlier this fall, we were honored to witness a second mishoon burn that went well into the night, conducted by culture keepers and educators on the Historic Patuxet Homesite. We are grateful to our colleagues who continue to carry, practice, and share this knowledge today.

Have you registered for the second offering in our free fall lecture series, Revolutionary Plymouth? On Wednesday, October 28, 7 – 8 pm, join Peggy M. Baker, a distinguished historian, genealogist, and longtime scholar of Plymouth’s history, to learn about the Plymouth “Minute Men.” Among them was Benjamin Warren, a 35-year-old general store owner, who rallied to the Patriot cause. In-person and Online tickets are available.

Today we observe Indigenous Peoples’ Day and recognize the communities of people who have lived on Turtle Island since time immemorial. We are privileged to work with culture keepers and passionate educators who engage the public we serve every day to learn about Wampanoag traditions, culture, and lifeways.

Indigenous Peoples’ Weekend programming continues today, October 12, to provide opportunities for reflection, connection, and understanding. Guests to Plimoth Patuxet are invited to join Tim Turner (Cherokee Nation), Director of Indigenous Education & Training, for two educational presentations:

• Wampanoag Leaders: 1600s to Today (11 am – 12 pm)
• 13 Moons and 12,000 Years: Wampanoag History Past and Present (1 – 2 pm)

Programs will be held in the Maxwell Theater. Access to these program are included with admission to Plimoth Patuxet Museums.

Join Robert Peters (Mashpee Wampanoag), artist, author, and culture keeper, for a special highlight of his children’s book “Big Baby” on Sunday, October 11, 11 am – 12 pm.
Through storytelling and illustration, Peters brings the Wampanoag legendary figure Maushop to life from a playful new perspective, sharing the culture hero and giant who has been beloved and celebrated by Wampanoag families for generations. Following the story time, visitors are invited to learn more about his work and explore available art pieces in the Visitor Center Gallery.

This program will take place during the Museum’s observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Weekend. Access to all Indigenous Peoples' Weekend programs are included with admission to Plimoth Patuxet Museums. For thousands of years, Indigenous communities have used clothing as a means of communication and expression. Among the Wampanoag, dress over the centuries speaks to a story of cultural resilience and adaptation in the face of an ever-changing world. Now, visitors can experience history beyond the 1620s with the new exhibit, “Threads of Identity: Wampanoag Clothing Across Generations” located in the Craft Center.

This exhibit features work curated and created by Indigenous staff and Native artisans from across the northeast, demonstrating the continuity of cultural knowledge and practices today. Contributing artist Shaking Reed Designs of the Akwesasne Mohawk Nation will be present in the Craft Center Saturday, October 10, and Sunday October 11, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm, during Indigenous Peoples’ Weekend. Specially commissioned to create post-contact Wampanoag regalia, reflecting the incorporation of European trade materials, she will share her artistic style, inspiration, and creative practice with visitors.

Colonial courthouses were as much the site of the Revolution as taverns, town greens, and battlegrounds. Join public historian, author, and educator Stephen O’Neill to explore this fascinating topic in “Plymouth’s 1749 Courthouse and the Revolution in the Courts” on October 21, 7–8 PM.

The symbolic architecture of Plymouth's 1749 Courthouse provided the dramatic setting for the changes the people of Plymouth went through, from colonial subjects who protested and struggled through eight long years of revolution to become citizens of a new republic, with all its faults and its promises for the future.

Join the Museum on Monday, October 12, 11 am – 12 pm, for the special lecture “Wampanoag Leaders: 1600s to Today.” In this lecture, Tim Turner (Cherokee Nation), Director of Indigenous Education & Training, will takes a fascinating look at Indigenous leaders from the 1600s to the present day. This program will explore well-known figures from history including Ousamequin (Massasoit), Tisquantum (Squanto), and Metacomet (King Philip), as well as the current Chairman and Chairwoman of the Herring Pond (Plymouth), Mashpee, and Aquinnah (Martha’s Vineyard) Tribes. Program participants will gain an understanding of each leader’s contributions to the region and to their communities. A Q&A will follow the presentation.
