We are Living Historians, bringing the Civil War era to life for the purpose of educating the public.

We are Living Historians, bringing the Civil War era to life for the purposes of educating the public and preserving history. Our Mission as stated in our New York State Charter is to educate the public and preserve history. We are incorporated as a non-profit organization under the New York State Board of Regents and have public charity status as a 501c3 organization under the Federal IRS code. M

ost of what we earn is donated for the preservation of Civil War Battlefields and other historical sites relating to the era.

From our website, "We got in a lot of drill in preparation for our first road event in nearly two years. Next Saturday, we'll be heading up to Monroe Museum Village, an event we last attended in 2001. Representatavies from the 9th VA & 30 VA joined us so we could hammer out the details for our Civil War Weekend at the Grange in October."

COUNTERMARCH!!! (20 Years Ago) 27 August 2006: Mort Kuntsler Exhibition at Nassau County Museum of Art

From our website, "The Nassau County Museum of Art invited the local Civil War community to support their Mort Kuntsler art exhibit with Mr. Kuntsler himself present and signing works for his fans. Unfortunately, the weather was not cooperative nevertheless we had a good time in our surrealist camp filled with modern art sculptures and many of us left possessing a work from Mr. Kuntsler."

From our website, "The 67th NY, First Long Island made its first visit to the very underrated Governor's Island in New York Harbor. During the Civil War the island was used a POW camp for Confederate prisoners. Two of our own fell in with the 119th NY for the day. We had fantastic weather for mid August: warm, sunny, and not at all humid."

2016 July 22 - 24: 155TH ANNIVERSARY of The First Battle of Bull Run

The webmaster discovered in his archive an unpublished photo album from 10 years ago. These were taken at the 155th anniversary of First Bull Run that was held at Cedar Creek battlefield.

Just like five years previous, this anniversary of First Bull Run (Manassas) unfolded in temperatures hovering around 100F. From our website, "We had excellent weather for late July during our monthly meeting & drill at the Grange in Sayville. This month, we had several "Fresh Fish" in our ranks as can be seen in their incomplete uniform. We did some light marching, Manual of Arms, and practiced Stacking Arms."
